A First Post About Me

Hello!  My name is Leah Moskowitz and I reside in sunny South Florida.  I’ve worked in Marketing since graduating from Florida State University (go Noles!), but have a passion/borderline obsession with makeup, beauty products, and fashion.  As much as I have an eye for things that far exceed my net worth, I can proudly say that I have a real knack for finding a practical alternative on the cheap as well!  So I’ve decided to jump into the world of blogging (to share my compulsion) and I hope you enjoy reading my posts as much as I enjoy writing them.  I’ve been told since I was little that I write like I talk.  That being said, if you don’t enjoy reading them, odds are you’d hate to have to actually speak with me. Fingers crossed that’s not the case!  And sorry in advance for the novel you’re about to read, I’m clearly a talker…

I saw this quote one day and it made me chuckle:

“To know me is to love me.  If you love me, stop hating on me.  If you hate me, you don’t know me.”

To know me (and thus hopefully love me), I’ve listed some things about myself so you get a better sense of  who you’re dealing with:

Don’t take me (or yourself) too seriously.  Sephora is my Holy Land.  I anxiously await my People Style Watch to be delivered to me like it’s Christmas morning, except I’m Jewish.  Three things you can almost guarantee to find in any of my purses at any point in time: an array of lipsticks, glosses and balms (we’re talking multiple shades of pinks, reds, nudes, and corals), bobby pins, and an assortment of candy.  I spend WAY too much time putting on makeup (to the point where I lay in bed in the morning contemplating if I should hit snooze two more times or apply eye makeup that day).  I just don’t know how to go any faster, but I remind myself that the first step is admitting you have a problem.  My friends call me their Phone-a-Friend as I know way too much about nothing.  It just hit me that some of the younger folk out there don’t even know what I’m referring to when I say “Phone-a-Friend”, reality of being in my late 20s is slowly sinking in, sigh.  I’m a firm believer that there are two types of girls: ones that dress for guys and ones that dress for girls, proud to say I’m of the latter.  I’m the queen of quotes and refer to movies and TV shows 24/7.  My husband is in politics so often times I do my best to try and channel my inner Jackie O and Kate Middleton, which I’m sure I fail miserably at.  I’m cheap about things that should be cheap, for example you’ll never see me posting about “an amazing layering tee for $200 that you just have to buy”…that’s what Target and Forever are for.  I’m a mascara and bronzer junkie.  If Guiliana Rancic and I met, I’m certain we’d be best friends instantaneously.  I can be a bit particular if you will (other words give off a negative connotation), but I just know what I like…think Meg Ryan’s ordering in When Harry Met Sally.  I have a ridiculous nail polish collection and know all of their names by heart and expect others to know too when I ask them what they’re wearing.  I’m fully aware that I spend way too much time picking out my clothes, only to change 5 times after, and then regret my final decision as soon as my husband pulls out of the driveway.  But then again I’m a woman and convinced that our surplus X chromosome stands for eX-nay, where are as the men’s Y stands for Y are you torturing me, every pair of black shoes you’ve shown me look the same.  It’s not our fault, it’s science.

Stats/vitals: 27 yrs young, 5’4’’, Dry olive skin, Dark Brown hair and eyes, and known to have the worst luck ever.

Likes:  Buying friends gifts.  Receiving gifts from friends.  When Dunkin makes my iced coffee just right.  Sleeping when it’s raining outside.  My maltipoo Fozzie (yes, named after the Muppets).  My eyelashes, they’re my favorite thing about my body (don’t take this as sounding cocky…realize how pathetic it is that I think my eyelashes are the best things going for me and let me have it). Sparkling water.  Laughing and attempting to make others laugh.  When I succeed at making people laugh.  The Miami Heat.  My husband Jared for putting up with my quirks, habits, and shopping addiction and  for believing in me.  When people read my blog.

Dislikes: Getting caught in the rain wearing jeans.  Messing up a mani or pedi right after getting them done.  People who don’t smile.  Soggy foods, seriously.  When Dunkin totally screws up my iced coffee.  A melted lip balm.  Tonic water.  That I’m allergic to pineapples and can never have a Pina Colada.  Clumpy eyelashes, aka spider eyes.  Wearing an outfit you love and not seeing anyone, only to see everyone when you’re wearing something awful waffle.  When people don’t read my blog.

so I finally finished reading your blog with this first one last- I tend to do that when I read- sort of right to left- inherently jewish thing I guess?!… anyways….here are some things
    I want to say/ask:
    1) when I had that conversation with myself (you know, the one I referred to in my other comment), where I was looking at the photo of you and giuliana in ‘city & shore’, here are the thoughts that first came to mind in a nanosecond flash: “oh, there’s giuliana rancic. who is that equally gorgeous girl next to her? another celebrity? her friend? her sister? (you do resemble each other and you do look very comfortable sitting with her!)… then the inner convo continued when I put on my reading glasses… OMG!! THAT’S LEAH!!!…” it was really eerie when i later read your comment about meeting her, because that is EXACTLY what i thought when i first looked at the photo! so to be sure you get what I am trying to say, the order of events for me: i saw the photo, had those thoughts and THEN read this first post! WOW! I have to ask you, how WAS it meeting her??
    2) I of course have known you for many years, but it took reading your blog to realize how much you and I are alike–I have always been told that I write the way I talk (ya think?!)– my mother told me that from the time I was an adolescent. I am a talker. my life IS a combo of movie/TV quotes (actually it apparently is hereditary- all 5 of us in our family talk/text in TV/movie quote code). I change my colors by the season for not only nail polish, but clothing as well. I always say “don’t be cheap about what you eat or what you put on your feet”. but for those two things, I am cheap about things that could be purchased for less and love to find things in consignment shops- save money and most importantly reducing manufacturing of virgin materials and products. i LOVE to laugh and have always been told that my laugh is contagious which makes me feel good that others are benefitting…. and of course, we are both seminoles. now I am not trying to move in on jessica or marilyn here, just realizing the similarities and how ironic it is that it took a blog to discover them!
