Superstorm Sandy

I wanted to take today to express our deepest sympathy to those affected by Superstorm Sandy earlier this week.  Many of our loved ones are in the Northeast, some still without power, and our thoughts and prayers are with you all.  Personally, as someone who’s spent almost every summer since I can remember on Long Beach Island, NJ at my grandparent’s beach house, I am in awe of the destruction and only wish there was something I can do.  Here are some ways in which everyone can help those who were hit:

Although it may not be the most enjoyable act, giving blood is crucial at a time like this.

There are many different (and easy!) ways to donate money, such as online or even by text.

Don’t forget about out furry friends!  Donate to The Humane Society of the United States here.

Here are many other ways in which you can help.  In addition, make sure to stay informed on news and updates.

I’m also a firm believer that laughter is the best medicine, so be sure to talk a minute to watch Jimmy Fallon’s opening monologue from Monday night’s show, to a one-person audience.  Hilarious!

We hope you and your loved ones are safe and sound!

Humpday Helper: Halloween Edition!

Today’s helpful tip is to smile, it’s Halloween!  While the holiday (which is one of my absolute favorites) may be on hold for folks in the Northeast, we hope everyone has a safe night!  To those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy, you are in our thoughts and prayers, and we especially hope are safe (and home with lots of candy!).

To help cast a little sunshine, here is Fozzie’s Halloween portfolio through the years (I’m not usually a fan of dressing up animals for no reason, but the little guy just looks too good in his costumes!).  He hopes you enjoy his Look Book:

Have a great evening and stay tuned to see what Fozzie Bear is dressing up as this year!

Courage Skincare

It’s amazing to see how many people, including retailers and organizations, have come together this past month and helped raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  While it’s something we need to continue to do throughout the year, I wanted to highlight an amazing skincare line before the month ended.

Courage Skincare is a moisturizing line for sensitive, or immune compromised skin. It was made exclusively for a Breast Cancer survivor for the side effects of her treatments.  It is fragrance free and feels great on the skin! Even though it is intended for those with effects from chemo, I was told about it because it’s also great for anyone’s skin that needs extra hydration. I’ve tested quite a few of the products, but my favorite is definitely the Skin Recovery.  It’s a great night cream that truly moisturizes my incredibly dry skin.  My face feels so soft from it!

Be sure to check out this great brand’s website and facebook page to learn more and purchase.  Also, in case you missed my post in the beginning of October, here are other amazing products to purchase before the month is over.

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays: PR Lipstick

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

I had fallen madly in love with L’Oreal’s Project Runway line last year when the show and their makeup sponsored brand collaborated for the first time. As I’ve stated before I get beyond giddy when my world’s combine and this of course was no exception.  I specifically fell in love with the Sultry Raven’s Pout lipstick, which is gorgeous pinky nude shade.  Since it was a limited edition color, I went a little overboard (naturally) and ordered four of them from Target.  I was able to breathe a little better when they arrived (exhale).

The only problem is all of my girlfriend’s who try it end up falling in love with it, only to then find out that it is no longer sold in stores.  And despite the fact that I pride myself on my sharing, these are my coveted limited edition Project Runway lipsticks we’re talking about, not to mention that to the average person it’s “just a pinky nude lipstick.”  Well, I’m here with amazinggg news!  One of my closest friends, Kristen, tried it out last week while we were getting ready for the Party in Pink event with the fabulous Guiliana Rancic and Kristen unfortunately fell victim to falling in love with the shade.  (And this is a girl who NEVER wears lipstick)  I felt badly for not giving it to her right then and there so I decided to do a little investigating despite the fact that this came out over a year ago (and there is currently a new PR line out right now), lo and behold, it is still available for sale on both Target.com and Waltmart.com!!

Moral of this incredibly long story is, if you’re looking for a great pinky nude lip color for a steal of a price, order this one now!  And I especially love it with a light nude gloss on top, such as Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Samantha or Make Up For Ever Lab Shine Lip Gloss in S2.

Fashion Friday: Halloween Boo-tique

Happy Fashion Friday!

Since Halloween is just five days away, I wanted to take a look as some frightfully fierce items you can sport for the holiday.

Absolutely loving this these skeleton and skull sweaters!  How cute is this one-piece for a baby?  (And yes, it’s glow-in-the-dark!)  This skull heart tank would be great paired with leggings!  Feel like being lazy, pair this Forever 21 white top (fun zipper in the back) with white skinnies (almost all are on sale now!) and poof – you’re a ghost!  Boo!

And don’t forget to accessorize!

Alexander McQueen Skull Scarf, will always covet.  Fun and inexpensive skull studded loafers, so many current trends in one shoe!  With Hurricane Sandy approaching us you may need an umbrella that doubles as a costume like this witch one.  Who doesn’t love the classic plastic spider ring?  Never gets old!

Whatever you each wear, I’m sure you’ll all look boo-tiful!  (And just a couple more days of cheesy sayings like that!)

Humpday Helper: Deodorant Marks

Ok, not the most glam topic but I know you all deal with those pesky white deodorant marks on your clothing when getting dressed (despite purchasing the “invisible, no residue” kind) womp womp.  Well the next time you find yourself with one of those dreaded white marks on your fabulous black dress, try using the following items to rub out the stain in a jiffy, before running out the door:

A dryer sheet, the foam part of a hanger one might get from a dry cleaner or department store (they come right off of the hanger), or a clean white sock.

In case those don’t work (or you don’t feel like being MacGruber that morning), shell out $5 and purchase yourself Hollywood Fashion Secrets Deodorant Removing Sponge.  It’s like a Magic Eraser to your clothes, I love it!  Flirting with buying one for my car and another to keep at my desk at work for those mornings in which it’s not until you’re in the office that you discover it looks like your cami has dandruff, woof.

As always, hope this has been helpful!

Leah
