You guys remember the game, don’t you? Ok, here it goes. Never have I ever…worn colored mascara. Did anyone take a shot?!
Colored mascara has been around forever and continues to pop up every so often in makeup trends as most other trends do, however I’ve never played along. I always thought of it as being very 80s to me (not that there’s anything wrong with that…hello ultimate college social theme!) and having such dark eyes I never thought it’d be worth it or look good on me. And yet I still am left a little curious, especially with it coming to life again by some of the most popular makeup brands.
If you’ve been in a Sephora or high end department store lately you’ve probably seen promos for Dior’s new Addict It-Lash Mascara. It claims to add volume, length, and also comes in four colors for intense impact. It’s available in black, blue, purple, and pink. Purple tends to be the most universally flattering so if I were to take the plunge it’s definitely the color I would opt for.
There are also plenty of drugstore brands that also offer a splash of color on the lashes if you don’t want to make such a financial commitment (the Dior mascara is $26), such as Almay Intense I-Color Volumizing Mascara available in Plum and Sapphire, NYX Cosmetics Color Mascara in Purple and Blue Dream, and Maybelline’s Great Lash Washable Mascara that comes in Royal Blue,
Tip: To accomplish a more subtle yet fun look, layer a colored coat over your typical black coat.
