Humpday Helper

Hi everyone!  Sorry for the mini hiatus (I’ll pretend like you guys were going through withdrawal..), and I hope everyone had an amazing Labor Day Weekend!  Can you believe we’re already in September?  Seriously, that’s beyond cray cray.  I myself enjoyed the long weekend with seeing Bruno Mars in concert (such a talented performer!), finally registered for the baby, enjoyed yummy meals with great friends, received our maternity photos back (yay!), got asked to be a bridesmaid in one of my oldest friend’s upcoming weddings, and more!  Unfortunately it may have been a bit too much excitement on my 7 months pregnant body because I’m now feeling a little under the weather, womp womp.

Anywho, do you ever get overwhelmed with how many options there are in the land of foundation?  Are you left puzzled as to what product to get for your specific type of skin, the coverage you want, the formula you prefer, and the price point you want to stay in?  Well, the masterminds at Sephora have come to the rescue!  You can now filter all of their foundation options by selecting by brand, coverage, finish, formulation, ingredient preferences, skin type, sun protection, and price point!  Could they make it any easier and helpful?!  Oh wait, they can.  They have teamed up with Pantone and have developed Color IQ, where you can stop by a store and get color matched from over 1,500 finishes.  Once you have your Color IQ number you can shop products to find your perfect match!

I need to stop in a store to determine my Color IQ number, but in the mean time I put the website to the test.  I selected that I want a full coverage, selected matte as well as radiant finishes (keep my options open!), and normal and dry skin.  It then provided me with 36 options to choose from!  I was then able to sort by relevancy, new, top rated, price low to high, etc.  Of all 36, I’m left wanting to try out Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation as it received amazing ratings and reviews and also comes in 18 colors.  Yes, 18!

Fashion Friday

We made it!  It’s Friday!  Not to mention the Friday of a holiday weekend, woop woop!

So I love a good t-shirt that can go with anything and I can dress up or down which is why I can honestly say I’m ob-sessed with this Oversize Raglan Long Sleeve shirt by a brand called Lamixx.  I first discovered the brand from one of my favorite bloggers, Anh from 9to5chic, who happened to be sporting the top in Blush while pregnant (fear not, the shirt isn’t maternity, just works with a belly as well since it’s oversized). I immediately knew I had to order it from its store on etsy and when I discovered it was only $44 I knew I had to order more than one!

This by far has to be one of the most comfortable tops I’ve ever worn, no joke.  The cut is perfect (I prefer pushing the sleeves up a bit) and it’s deliciously soft!  It comes in Black, Beige, Blush, and Heather Grey.  I’m guilty of owning all but the Heather Grey – and that’s only because it was sold out in my size, oops!

Also be sure to check out lamixx’s other great tops!

Happy Friday and have a great Labor Day Weekend!

Humpday Helper

I know I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I have some crazy brows with minds of their own thus I’m always trying ways to keep them tame and to fill in my couple of bald spots.  The new Benefit product Gimme Brow certainly has me – well, raising my brows.  Apparently this tiny bottle and wand can make a big impact with its innovative brow-volumizing fiber gel as it adheres to skin and hair creating brows where before there were none.  Since sometimes pencils and powders can look unnatural, this gel is buildable for natural looking brows, coming in two different shades; Light/Medium and Medium/Deep.

Gimme Brow

In a consumer panel survey, 94% said it made eyes appear more open, 97% said brows looked fuller, 100% said it looked natural, and 100% said it was easy to apply!

Looking forward to trying this out and seeing how much it can help my brows!

Save Nadine

Save Nadine

I hate to come to you guys asking for things, but I wanted to take a minute to share with you the story of a young woman who needs our help.  My best friend Pam came to me with the heartbreaking story about Nadine Sfeir, who attended the University of Florida and was sorority sisters with Pam.  Nadine’s life was turned upside down in November 2010 when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, an astrocytoma, at just 24 years old.  After two brain surgeries with many types of chemo and radiation therapies, nothing has resulted in even a delay in this unthinkable nightmare.

Recently, Nadine’s family received news that there are only a couple of more options.  There is hope in a treatment called Novocure, a vaccine treatment in Germany.  Unfortunately the treatment is considered exploratory, and thus will not be covered by insurance.  Nadine’s family has no choice but to start treatment with $4,000/month for Novocure, $9,000/month for Gammadelta T cell vaccine, and $70,000 for the Newcastle Virus and dendric cell vaccine.  While this is of course all technical and I’m certainly no doctor, the end result is that the full cycle of treatment is more than they can afford.  Nadine’s family is asking for donations to help save her.

I don’t know Nadine, but I know that her story is unfathomable.  I also know that the money I’ve already donated to her fund will not be missed by me.  It may mean I won’t go out to dinner this week or buy some makeup, but that I was able to contribute to Nadine’s medical fund and help her family with their growing bills.  If you would like to donate directly to the fund, whether it’s $5 or $25, please visit the her direct website here.

You can also purchase a Save Nadine t-shirt here, where 100% of proceeds will be donated to help save Nadine.

Thanks so much!

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

I hope everyone had a terrific weekend!  I had a nice and relaxing couple of days (even managed to treat myself to a facial and prenatal massage, ooh) which was certainly needed!  I also got to celebrate one of my very best friend’s, Lara’s, 30th birthday!  It was so great to celebrate her birthday with friends before she too welcomes a child shortly!

She and I went to the mall before the party to check out MAC’s new Indulge collection for Fall and as soon as I saw the new lipstick Just a Bite, described as a mid-tone blue red, I fell in love.  It is such a gorgeous deep red for the upcoming season I knew I had to have it!  I of course made sure to use my MAC’s Prep+Prime Lip primer before applying and paired it with their Burgundy lip liner (great match!).  I’m such a sucker for a red lip, move over Gwen Stefani…

Just a Bite

I also snagged the new lipstick Feed the Senses before it was all sold out (seriously, this collection is going FAST!), described as a mid-tone mauvey nude.  When I tried it on by itself I was almost afraid it came off as a bit too purpley on me, as opposed to nudey, but then we tried out matching it with Whirl lip liner and topped it off with their Saint Germain Lipglass and I was sold!  (Looks like it may be a weird mix, but it truly worked!)  A good nude look can go with anything, especially when you want to really do up your eyes!

Feed the Senses

Another huge birthday shoutout to my sister in Japan who also celebrated adding another candle to the cake, just wish we were able to celebrate together! Happy Happy Birthday Doc Brown!

Cheers to a great week!

Fashion Friday

Happy Fashion Friday everyone!

I couldn’t be happier that this work week is coming to an end and the weekend is finally upon us!  I’ve been a little J.Crew crazy lately and trying to avoid all of the new fall styles that I unfortunately can’t make work with my belly (sorry Tim Gunn, some things you just can’t “make it work”), but I am ob-sessed with this new Merino Leather-Pocket Sweater in black.  How chic?!  I’m thinking it would look ultra luxe in a pair of their black Pixie pants (which I can honestly say I’m loving the maternity style ones, seriously comfortable and so stylish!), as I’m a total sucker for black on black in the Fall and Winter.

And don’t forget, now through Monday you can receive 25% off any purchase of $150 or more with promo code FALLSTYLE!

Have a fab weekend!

Humpday Helper

Today’s Humpday Helper I wanted to feature some handy wipes that I’m loving, as well as some I want to try!  Check these little wonders out…

Makeup Remover Wipes: No shocker here.  Who doesn’t love using these at the end of the day to wipe off all of your makeup?  I usually opt for the Neutrogena Cleansing Towelettes, nice and cheap and gets the job done.  Best.invention.ever.

Neutrogena

Nail Polish Remover Wipes: These bad boys can come in individually wrapped packages (err, that isn’t sounding right…) so you can take them on the go and remove your old polish anytime, anywhere!

cutex

Cell-Phone Cleaning Wipes: Be sure to clean your phone regularly to avoid dirt on your face which can of course lead to blemishes.  Now you can with convenient wipes, not to mention how cute these packs are from Stay Well Kept.  Need to buy asap!

well-kept

Brush Cleaning Wipes: I hate having to clean my makeup brushes and I wish one morning I’d wake up and the Makeup Cleaning Fairy had cleaned and dried everything for me, but since she’s not coming anytime soon I try and find easy ways to get the job done myself.  I’ve heard the Japonesque wipes are great, but would also be interested in trying these Face Secrets towelettes for less money.

Hope they’re helpful!
