I’m an April Fool

While I seriously can’t believe we’re in April already (weren’t we just freaking out about what we’re wearing for NYE??), I am very happy that April Fools is over.  Back story, my sister (who lives in Japan) is pregs.  Like pregs pregs.  Like I woke up to an email yesterday letting me know she is dilated 2 centimeters.  All day I kept an eye on my phone and email, to stay on top of any labor alerts.

Cut to me sitting on the couch with Fozzie wrapped on in RHBH Reunion Part 2, while contemplating what to blog about (as well as telling myself for the 18th million time how much I loathe Brandi’s acrylic nails) and I receive a g-chat alert from my sister letting me know that her water broke and she’s in the cab on her way to give birth to my little nephew.  I freak out, yet wasn’t surprised to hear it.  She admits that my fear of her having a baby in a cab may actually happen.  And then bam, I get a big fat April Fools!  For the record, it wasn’t even April 1 in Japan anymore!  I tell her that she better hope I believe her when she notifies me that she is in fact in labor and that she isn’t the boy who cried broken water.  She considers the prank a full success and then wonders if she became more dilated.  I tell her based on the karma alone she dilated an additional centimeter.

Moral of the story, I’m happy the day is over and I continue to anxiously await the news that my little nephew is here!  Until then I’ll drool over my little niece as usual.

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays: Concealed Weapon

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I had a great time with Jared, friends, family, and basketball.

Concealer

So concealer is of course a staple in any makeup regimen to help smooth fine lines, cover dark spots, and brighten your eyes.  I have certainly tried my fair share when it comes to the necessary product, however I stopped and realized the other morning when applying that I have been using the same one for probably the last two years, which says a lot!  Clinique Line Smoothing Concealer is a great, liquid concealer with moderate coverage that smoothes over lines and wrinkles.  Compared to other concealers I’ve tried that have too little coverage where you can still see dark circles and discoloration or too much coverage where it looks muddy and rough, this is just perfect!  I love that it’s available in eight shades, I prefer the Medium for my skin.  Highly recommend!

Cheers to a great week!

Fashion Friday: Phillips Frankel Jewelry

Happy Friday everyone!

I wanted to share with you one of my favorite jewelry designers today, Phillips Frankel.  Over the past year I’ve become a huge fan of the brand from my friend Steph’s recommendations and now I can’t get enough.  The pieces are beautiful, delicate, and look like a million bucks…but they’re not!  Each of the pieces I own were less than $100 and couldn’t be more stunning.

Phillips Frankel

If you want the real deal, you can purchase items from their Phillips House Collection.  Since the brand’s launch in April 2010, Phillips House has become available in nearly 50 doors in the US including Saks Fifth Avenue and other specialty retailers across the country. Phillips House has has received praise and attention from national fashion and lifestyle outlets for their beautiful and expertly crafted designs in publications such as Women’s Wear Daily, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Vanity Fair, Oprah, and Glamour, to name a few. The jewelry has additionally become a favorite among other celebrities such as Zooey Deschanel, Lauren Conrad, Kerry Washington, among others. The pieces range in price from $625 – $12,000, but a typical piece ranges between $1,200-$4,000 USD.

You can purchase any of the items online, select Saks Fifth Avenue stores, as well as some other retailers listed here. Additionally, there is also a showroom in Miami for anyone in South Florida and for those of you who are in SoFla and are free tomorrow, I highly recommend making a visit to the showroom!  From 11am – 5pm the Phillips Frankel Showroom is hosting its first-ever Girls’ Day Out and enjoy mimosas and hors de’ouevers while shopping!  I will definitely be there to take advantage of such a great event!

Q&A with Jonathan Adler

So last week something HUGE happened, and I don’t mean I got yet another new lipstick.  No, this was monumental.  I had the honor of sitting down and speaking to the Jonathan Adler, while he was in town promoting his new Spring Collection at Neiman Marcus!  To say he was amazing, phenom, and hysterical would be an understatement.  To say that I texted Jared when I was done to inform him that I may leave him to run off with my new boyfriend would be the truth. Here’s a glimpse of our chat which will hopefully show you just why he was so insanely cool to gab with.

Jonathan Adler

LLL: Through the years you have collaborated with many top brands, such as Matel, Lacoste, and more recently Bare Minerals.  Who else would you love to be to able to team up with?

JA: I would love to do a car!

LLL: Your collections have rapidly evolved from pottery and ceramics, to home living, pet accessories, and now handbags.  Did you always have the desire to design across all of these levels?

JA: When I started out, I literally had no idea what I was doing, no master plan and everything has been a happy accident.  It never crossed my mind in a billion years that I would do all of these things. Having said that, it’s the same process designing anything, but I find it ridiculous when kids or people who are starting out have these big master plans.  Like dude, your 20s should be about no thought, mistakes, drugs, and sex.  That’s how I rolled and now look!

(You heard that advice from Uncle Jonathan, himself.)

LLL: When Barney’s originally began carrying your pieces in 1993, did you ever think you’d be where you are today?

JA: I had no plans for anything.  But I will say one thing, at the time Out Magazine wrote an article about me, and I thought, (I was so naive), “Ok this is the time I become a public person.  The private period of my life is over, I’m now a celebrity.”  Cut to, obviously I couldn’t have been more wrong, there were crickets and nobody noticed anything but it was a great life lesson; Nothing matters. Nobody cares about anything.  You should just live for your own thing and just do what you want to do.

LLL: If you had to give one home design tip to my readers, what would it be?

JA: Never settle for anything that will “just do”.  Make everything and every piece in your house should be j’amazing!

LLL: What’s your most favorite piece you’ve ever designed?

JA: Probably the big brass banana sculpture.  It just owns a coffee table.

Brass Banana

LLL: I’ve read that we have quite similar interests in that we both adore watching TV with our husbands and dog and also that you’re a fellow fan of the show GIRLS, what character’s apartment would you most love to re-design?

JA: OMG, loves it!  The nice thing about GIRLS is their apartments look just like they should and I think that’s what’s great.  I wouldn’t want to redesign anything because I think their homes are a pure reflection of who they are.

LLL: But don’t you just looove the show?!

JA: Obsessed.  The embarrassing thing is that I’m a 46 year old man and I have Shoshanna-ish tendencies, I find myself talking like Shoshanna and I’m like I’ve got to stop this!

LLL: What’s your favorite upcoming Spring trend?

JA: I’m an idiot and I don’t even know what trends are.

LLL: You’re making trends.

JA: Exactly, I’m too busy making trends, ha!  No, I don’t know what trends are and I try to live my life like that, try not to pay attention to anything and just do my own thing.

LLL: Hypothetically speaking if I were let’s say building a two-story home and was interested in purchasing your Sputnik chandelier, how many would you hang and what sizes?

JA: Well, we now do three sizes and I think a trio of all three.  My attitude is go hard or go home and I think chandeliers should be bigger than what you think.

And here’s a look at what I’m currently loving by Mr. Adler…

Humpday Helper: Revitalizing Lip Balm

Happy Humpday!

Suffering from dry lips?  (Especially those of you dealing with the freak snow storms in late March, groan.)  Longing for a pretty pout with gorg sheer tint?  Does color usually fade super fast to the point where you feel like you eat your lipsticks and lip balms?  Well if so I definitely have a new (and inexpensive!) product for you to try, Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm.

lip balm

I was actually informed about the miracle balm by one of my mother-in-laws after she tried it and it stayed on for hours, as opposed to minutes like it normally does for her.  The SPF 20 tinted lip balm comes in six beautiful shades and helps make lips look softer, rosier, and healthier-looking even after you take it off.  It’s definitely a must try for moisturized and fuller looking lips!

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

Hello hello!  I hope everyone had a great weekend, I had a terrific one, thanks for asking!  We enjoyed celebrating one of our best friend’s birthday and then officially welcomed a new member of the family at the wedding of Jared’s cousin and his stunning new bride!  It was a great weekend spent with friends and family!

To help primp for the wedding, I spent the day with my sister-in-law getting our hair did and our face done up.  When getting our makeup done at MAC, the makeup artist used the Studio Fix Fluid Foundation SPF 15 on me after I told her I was in some serious need of coverage and I needed it to last.  (I had also specifically requested it after learning first hand from Lilly Ghalichi from Shahs of Sunset that it’s her favorite foundation, but more on that later this week!)

Studio Fix

Well, it did both!  Not only did it provide awesome coverage to my not so awesome looking skin and lasted all evening, but the foundation also helps minimize the appearance of pores and imperfections, giving skin a smoother, more flawless look and finish. I am now the proud owner of the shade NC30 (because I totally needed yet another foundation) and I highlyyy recommend you running out and doing the same!

And because I want the celebration to continue, here’s a pic of all of us, including the gorgeous bride and groom!

The Proof is in the Primer!

So I know I’m always going on and on (and on) about why I love primers so much, especially lash primer, and why it makes the world of a difference. Well, today I’m going to stop telling you and I’m going to show you!

Lashes

As normal, I curled my lashes, applied the mascara, and separated as necessary, but only used primer on one of my eyes…can you tell which one?

primer

If you think the lashes on my left eye look amazeballs compared to the lashes on my right eye then you’re right and should run out to get yourself some eyelash primer pronto!

Primer

I wouldn’t dare apply my mascara without it!

Leah
