Cosmetic Case of the Mondays: Light it up!

Happy Most Unproductive Monday of the Year!

So while watching last night’s game with our friends Lara and Scott, I immediately realized what I wanted to blog about today once Beyonce killed it so much that the lights went out…light up lip gloss!  There are a couple of brilliants brands out in the makeup world that sell lip gloss with lights and mirrors built into the tube.  So this way the next time you’re at the Super Bowl and they have a power outrage, or perhaps just out for a night on the town, you can touch up your lips in a cinch!

Check out these couple of options to light it up!

Fashion Friday: February Frenzy

It’s February.  Huh?  How’d that happen?  I swear I just decided on what I was wearing to NYE like 5 minutes ago.  How did January already end?  And it wasn’t even one of those shorts months either, a full jam packed 31 days, woof!  As much as I can barely comprehend that we’re officially in 2013, I have to admit I get so excited whenever I get to change my calendar to this month.

For starters, there’s Super Bowl…Yay for Bean Dip, Beer, Beyonce, and Bloody Marys!

Beyonce

If only we all looked like this in a referee uniform…

We’ll start to see all of the new trends hitting our favorite stores (more on that soon!), goodbye Winter…hello Spring!

spring 2013 pantone colors

Already drooling over these Spring colors!  First step, check to make sure I have a pair of skinnies in each of them…kidding, maybe.

Then of course there’s V-Day, however Jared and I have only been together one year for Valentine’s Day (in all 8 years we’ve been dating…weird, I know) so I can’t say that I gush over the holiday, but I do love the cheesy cards and yummy candy (people should sell “red only” candy all year round like the genius’s at Starburst…FaveReds, you complete me).

target heart sweater

Remember this adorable Target sweater I blogged about way back when?  It screams “Wear me on the 14th!”

And alas, there is yours truly’s birthday towards the end of the month!  2.23…mark your calendars now, woop woop!

Naven

Recently purchased this Naven skirt and it just may be the perfect thing to wear for celebrating!

We of course have to (or at least attempt to) look stylish the whole time!

Have a great weekend!  And to my Rubin’s, go Ravens!!

Super Bowl Spirits

Getting ready for Sunday’s big game?  Well while you’re getting your jerseys ready, bets placed, wings ordered, don’t forget about stocking the bar!  Since New Orleans is hosting Super Bowl XLVII I think the key drink to serve this year, would be a Cajun Bloody Mary!

I’m a huge Bloody Mary fan and just like many cocktails everyone has different variations of how they make theirs, here is how I like mine:

Staples

The staples

-Ketel One or Absolut Peppar (for a little extra kick)

-Either tomato juice or Bloody Mary mix (I like either Mr and Mrs T’s or Zing Zang)

-A dash of Worcestershire and Tabasco sauce

-Pinch of salt and pepper

-Lemon

-Lime

Garnish

The garnish (the more, the better in my book!)

-Green Olives

-Celery

-Pickled Green Beans

-Dill Pickle Spear

You can also throw a shrimp cocktail in, as well as garnish the rim of the glass with lemon or lime juice, celery salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, and/or old bay seasoning.

Cheers!

Humpday Helper: LUSH Cleanser

Looking for the perfect cleanser for your skin?  Suffer from dry skin, sensitive skin, even combination skin?  Alas, I have the perfect cleanser recommendation, LUSH Angels on Bare Skin.  To get the most heavenly soft skin, massage a little of this scrub with water on to your skin daily.  The kaolin clay base deep cleanses while ground almonds gently exfoliate the dead skin away. Rose and lavender are added to soothe and help balance out combination skin.

Angels on Bare Skin

Don’t believe me?  There is a reason why it’s LUSH’s worldwide best selling cleanser for all skin types!  That’s right, worldwide best seller!

Obsessive Cosmetic Disorder

So it’s official.  I, Leah Rifkin Moskowitz, have OCD…Obsessive Cosmetic Disorder.  I have been aware of this for quite some time now, however it really became apparent when I was going through some of my stash.  These are all of my MAC blushes that I have compiled.  Keep in mind these are only blushes.  Only MAC blushes, i.e. there are others.  Many, many others.

MAC Blushes

Who needs this many blushes and why, you ask?  Well I do, because in my crazy mind they all vary and should be worn differently.

Blush Colors

1. Stubborn: A mid-tone rose plum, that gives a great dramatic look!

2. Pinch Me: The perfect, go-to flushed color that can be worn everyday by everyone.

3. Small Vanity: A delicate, subdued dusty rose tan, great for so many skin tones!

4. Breath of Plum: A gorgeous light plum shade that goes best with a mauve pink pout.

5. Dollymix: A fun and intense bright pink, just blend properly and a little will go a long way!

6. Gleeful: A baked, mineral blush that is buildable for intensity (start with just a little, seriously) and even looks great paired with a red lip!

7. Warm Soul: The best blush I’ve ever used for the perfect glow (just refer to the pic and you’ll see how much I use it!).

8. Alpine Bronze: This mid-tone caramel mineralized blush gives a great warm tan, without looking too orange or shimmery.

9. Supercontinental: My favorite coral-peach-pink color, it was even described by MAC as a “bright cute coral”

10. The Perfect Cheek: This was part of the Marilyn Monroe collection and is a neutral pink beige, matte, buildable, and great packaging!

Just remember, the first step is admitting you have a problem…

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays: New Week, New Palette

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I was able to enjoy some gorgeous weather (sorry to everyone who doesn’t live in Florida) and was able to check off another Oscar nom movie, Argo, which I thought was amazing fyi!

So to begin the new work week I figured I’d highlight a new eye shadow palette that I purchased, Too Faced Boudoir Eyes Soft & Sexy Eye Shadow Collection.  I’m a huge fan of the Too Faced Eye Shadow Collections, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint!  It includes 9 shadows as well as three easy to follow step-by-step instruction cards to help accomplish the following looks: Day, Classic, and Fashion.
Too Faced Boudoir Eyes

Plus it comes in a super cute retro looking tin.  Overall, I highly recommend!

Be sure to also check out the other Too Faced Eye Collections, such as Naked Eye, Natural Eye, Natural at Night, Smokey Eye, Romantic Eye, Matte Eye, and more!

Fashion Friday: Lela Rose

Happy Friday!

I had the honor of interviewing fashion designer Lela Rose at my local Neiman Marcus this week, as she was in town to present her new Spring collection!  Lela (pronounced Lee-la as opposed to Lay-la, which was a bit funny since it sounded like I just repeated her name back to her when introducing myself), has been designing clothing since 1996 and has worked with Molly Sims, Mischa Barton, Jessica Simpson, Selma Blair, and both Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen!  You’ll also see her designs on a number of fashion forward celebs from Lauren Conrad to Kim Kardashian!  She was such a pleasure to meet with, here’s a glimpse of our chat…

Colorblock Sheath Dress / Split Neck Dress / Contour Coloblock Sheath Dress

Which upcoming Spring Trend are you most excited about?

I actually don’t really follow trends, you will always find color in my lines – it makes you happier!  There is however a lot of mixture of color, texture, and mirrored images as well in the new collection.

What made you want to branch out into bridal wear?

Our ready-to-wear is for a woman attending events and going places.  It felt only natural that we would move into designing for the ultimate event.

What is your personal go-to outfit?

You will always find me in a dress, which I try to pair with a fun chunky necklace.  I love the idea of a dress because it’s so easy, one zip and you’re done.  Then once you have that figured out you can spend money on different accessories and transform that one dress into many different looks.

Jigsaw Lace

Jigsaw Lace Dress: What Lela, herself, rocked when I met with her, loved it in person!

If you could give LLL readers one piece of fashion advise, what would it be?

Wear color!!  It sets the tone of your own attitude as well as the mood of others around you and how you will be perceived.  I like dressing a confident and put together woman and color can help accomplish that.

I know you designed dresses for the Bush twins for their father’s inauguration, as well as Mrs. Biden for this week’s inauguration, that must have been such an honor!

I felt good about it, it’s certainly an honor, but I honestly love to be able to answer the needs of any woman needing to dress for a special occasion, no matter who it is.

Who was your favorite celebrity to dress?

I’ve had a great time dressing all of the celebrities that I’ve worked with, I have no bad experiences.  I especially enjoyed working with Anne Hathaway and Mandy Moore, whom we’ve dressed numerous times!

Mandy Moore

Be sure to check out Lela’s new Spring 2013 collection and for all you brides out there, take a look at her Bridal Collection and Bridesmaid Collection at Dessy, I love it!

Have a great weekend!

Leah
