Gameday Nails!

I spent this past Saturday cheering on the Florida State Seminoles as a proud Alumni when we played the Miami Hurricanes in South Florida.  Not only was the day with friends, fans, food…ok and drinks, a WIN (go Noles!), but for me it was also filled with festive gameday nails!

To recreate these pretty paws:

I’ve been on a lookout for quite some time for the perfect Garnet color.  Dissatisfied with what is out there, I create my own using 1 coat of OPI’s new Skyfall (prior times I’ve used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Cinna-Snap so you can use either) and then top it with 1 coat of 10 Professional Nail Lacquer’s Siren of the Sea.  I’m proud to say I’ve found the perfect glittery gold in Orly’s Glitz & Glamour.  Apply 2 coats of that for the ring fingernail.

And there you go, you’re ready to do the War Chant in style!

Since I’m feeling great from our win, I wanted to find some other looks for fans from other teams (although I’m sure even they want to sport the Garnet & Gold mani!):

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays: BB Cream

Today’s post is brought to you for the letter B…and also another B.  BB Creams have been a craze in Asia for quite some time, but truly became popular in the US early this Summer.  For those of you who are unaware of what makes these two little letters so powerful, they actually stand for Beauty Balm.  They’re basically tinted moisturizer meets primer, sprinkled with a little SPF.  While it’s supposed to kind of be an all-in-one, I of course use it underneath everything..in other words, I still use other products on top since I like fuller coverage.  For all my friends out there who are perfectly content with just tinted moisturizer as your face makeup (couldn’t be more envious), this is definitely a product for you!  For the other crazies like myself, it’s great underneath your makeup or for when you’re running out of the house and don’t have time for makeup, or using it as moisturizer before heading to pilates.

Since becoming so popular, dozens of brands now make a BB Cream.  Literally there are so many to choose from!  (Sephora alone carries 15 online.)  The two I love are:

Too Faced Beauty Balm was the first BB I had tried.  A little on the pricey side, $32, although I can say that I loved it.  Nice size as well.  The great thing about it is it definitely gave good coverage and it comes in four different colors, I used the Nude Glow.

After I finished my Too Faced I figured I’d test out another brand.  While I normally don’t call out brands/products that I don’t particularly love (everyone gets it wrong once in a while), I don’t want to mislead anyone and I did in fact end up returning one from Sephora after being heavily dissatisfied and dropping way too much money on way too little of a tube.  So that being said, I don’t recommend one that’s $39 for 1 oz. and rhymes with Crashmox.

After that escapade, I ventured off to Target and purchased Garnier’s BB Cream.  This comes in a huge tube, in two different colors (I opted for the Medium/Deep) and scored it for about $10.  I can honestly say I really like it!  Maybe not as much as the Too Faced, but then again I don’t use them everyday and couldn’t beat the price!  Definitely recommend!

Here’s to a great week ahead!

Fashion Friday: Saks Friends & Fam

So it’s clearly that time of year, when our favorite stores say thanks their supportive customers with a little extra bonus.  In case you missed taking advantage of Bloomies & Tory Burch’s recent Friends and Family promotions (or you just have your eye on something new), make sure to check out Saks this weekend as they began their promo yesterday.  Receive 20% off selected merchandise through Sunday either online or in stores, woop woop!

Now as I stated, it is off of just selected merchandise of course, so unfortunately you can’t score a pair of Jimmy Choos or a YSL clutch for the discounted price, however some of my absolute favorite brands are included in the sale.  Here’s what I currently have my eye on (or what I may or may not have already purchased during Pre-Sale…oops, love you Jared!):

Really liking A + O’s shoes lately, flirting with trying a pair for the first time!  These Heart-Print Calf Hair Ballet Flats are just too cute!  I’m obvi loving Snake-Print Patent Leather Pumps per my Black and Gold post from yesterday.  I’m also really liking the Luce Cutout Suede & Metallic Leather Pumps and think they’d look amazing with the Reid Cross-Back Dress!

Lusting for a pair of Brian Atwood pumps but don’t want to fork over all the money?  (Sadly, they’re not included in F&F, sigh of sadness).  Well luckily Saks carries the much more affordable line, B Brian Atwood (and yes, they’re included, sigh of relief)!  Here are two pairs I’m currently wanting to try on:

Leo Glitter & Suede-Trimmed Platform Pumps.  Savita Suede Platform Pumps.

I can never get enough of Rebecca Minkoff bags and Tory Burch flats.  I’m especially digging this RM Studded Continental Wallet.  I love grey bags and I’m obsessed with the Mini Mac Convertible Clutch, so it’s the perfect combo!  Tory Burch Eddie Ballet Flats are by far some of the most comfy flats out there in my opinion (they have memory foam soles, need I say more?!).  I’m LOVING these Leather & Crystal Bow ones and the Patent Leather pair are such a staple!

So I’ve recently made a promise to myself to stop buying Parker dresses, ONLY because I had to come to the realization that they just don’t fit me well (definitely not because I’m not totally smitten by them).  Since I won’t be purchasing any, I figured I might as well share two of my current faves in hopes they’ll find a nice home: the Ombre Sequined Short-Sleeve and the Strapless Leather.  Take good care of them!

And now for the grand finale, let me take this time to let you know that I received a very special phone call the other day from one of my fav Saks sales women, letting me know that on top of the 20% F&F discount, all DVF clothing is being marked down by 25%.  I repeat, all DVF clothing is 25% PLUS the 20% F&F discount.  I must be on Santa’s ‘Nice’ list this year!!  Here is what I’m obsessing over/what I have already purchased (it just wouldn’t make sense not to take advantage of such savings!):

The stunning Zarita Lace Dress in Navy, love!  I’m really liking the look of the Cindy Acorn Belted Dress in this neat Stucco color.  I’m also loving the New Cindy Lace Dress, which comes in many variations, but I think this one in Black is my fav.  Be sure to also check out the Helen Dress (not pictured), and the multiple shades it comes in, it’s such a great go-to dress!  And even though this Lytton Metallic Raffia Box Clutch and these Snake-Print Leather Platform Pumps are not included in the extra 25% deal, they are of course still 20% off and both are so versatile!

As always, have a great weekend and happy shopping!

Humpday Helper: LC’s Beauty Book

So my helpful tip today is to purchase the new book by reality star/author/designer/style icon, Lauren Conrad: Lauren Conrad Beauty.  The book came out yesterday and I’ve already purchased my copy from Amazon and can’t wait to read it!

The book is filled with beauty tips, advice, and step-by-step lessons for makeup, hair, and nails.  She’s definitely come a long way from just being LC from Laguna Beach…

It’s the Balm!

As much as hearing “It’s the bomb!” makes me thinking of Lawrence shaving Murray’s head in Clueless, this post is actually all about lip balms that make me smack my lips! {Please note I am a lip balm connoisseur, as I have ridiculously dry lips and tend to pick them…no need to judge, I know how horrid of a habit it is.}

1. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment, SPF 15 – I love all of the Sugar lip variations and can’t wait to try the new Berry shade!  Sephora has a couple of new sets featuring multiple shades of these great treatments: Fresh Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Trio (set of 3), Fresh Sugar Addiction Mini Lip Collection (set of 6),  Fresh Sugar Soiree Mini Lip Collection (set of 8)

2. Nivea A Kiss of Moisture - I love this chapstick, by far one of my faves because of how ridiculously soft it is and the inexpensive price allows me to have a bunch to keep in different bags.

3. Rosebud Perfume Co. Strawberry Lip Balm – This stuff couldn’t smell better, yum!!

4. L’Oreal Colour Riche Le Balm - I am loving tinted lip balms these days, especially this one by L’Oreal.  My fav is the Heavenly Berry.

5. Neosporin Lip Health Overnight Lip Treatment - I love putting this stuff on before I go to bed so I can wake up with nice, soft lips.

6. Dior Addict Lip Glow - You all know by now from this post that I truly am addicted to this.  Like seriously addicted.

7. Bonne Bell Lip Smackers - Who doesn’t love these?  One of my biggest girl crushes, Rachel Bilson, is known to be a huge fan of the popular Dr. Pepper flavor.  I’m partial to the original flavor, Strawberry.

These are all definitely the balm!  {Hopefully nobody laughed too hard at my Something for the People reference…}

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays: Revlon PhotoReady

So I’m always on the lookout for a great drugstore find, so I was ecstatic when I discovered a line that I really do love, Revlon PhotoReady.  Great name too, who wouldn’t want to be photo ready?!  I am absolutely loving the coverage that it provides in the following products:

I actually mix two of the Airbrush Mousses, the Golden Beige and the Rich Ginger. LOVE.

After I apply the mousse, I use the Medium Concealer under the eyes.

I then pat the Medium/Deep Powder on top.

Best part is that sometimes you can score a Buy One, Get One 50% at a drugstore.  Highly recommend a try!

Leah
