Forever 21 Eye Palette: Love it or Leave it?

So I clearly have an obsession with purchasing makeup.  I get that.  But I don’t have an obsession with spending money on it.  That part isn’t so fun, so it’s awesome to find inexpensive deals on current makeup trends!

At a recent trip to Forever (I usually just stick online, happy I survived the madness), I scored a great Shimmering Eyeshadow Quad in Grey/Multi for $5.80.  That’s right, $5.80 for a smokey eye set.  I came home to test it out right away.  Now I’m not going to sit here and tell you it was the most amazing eye shadows I’ve ever used.  But the important thing is that it certainly wasn’t the worst. My only complaint was that the colors weren’t as bold as they appeared and I was left wanting more.  But I then realized that I have many friends who would love to opt for a less dramatic look while still sporting the trend.  This made me realize it may actually be a great find!  And thus, it was given the Live Love Lipstick stamp of approval!  (For what that’s worth at least.)

Good news, you can purchase the quad online or in stores and perhaps try out some of their other easy on the pocket eye makeup to finish out the look, such as this Mega Liquid Liner and the Mega Mascara.  All for under $13 total!

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

Happy Labor Day kids!  Hopefully you are enjoying an amazing day off and for once don’t actually have a Case of the Mondays.  But keeping with the tradition (two weeks constitutes a “tradition”, right?), I wanted to share a product that make me just as happy as three-day weekends do.

I absolutely love my Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss that I purchased from Birchbox.  The $20 lip gloss comes in nine shades, but the higher-ups at Birchbox supposedly asked Jouer to create a shade just for them: Birchbox Pink.  It’s a vibrant fuchsia that goes on sheer, yet can be layered for a bolder look.  I love wearing it alone or mixed with another color!

If only I could ask my favorite brands to make shades just for me…

Fashion Friday: Tory Burch LD Event!

Labor Day Weekend…it marks the end of Summer, the beginning of Fall, the start of college football (go Noles!), as well as a weekend of what some say are better sales than on Black Friday! One sale in particular that I’m looking forward to is the Tory Burch tiered promotion, going on today through Monday, online and at any Tory Burch store.  Here’s how it works, the more you buy the more you save so be sure to bring a friend and try combining your purchases!

20% off $300 - $499

25% off $500 – $749

30% off $750+

Here is what I’m loving right now:

Calista Riding Boot – As mentioned in the Behind the Scenes: Live Love Lipstick post on Papery & Cakery’s blog this week, in case you missed it!

Priscilla Clutch – Love the Wildberry pop of color!

Priscilla Top Handle Crossbody – So chic in the Tumbleweed color, would look great with neutrals as well as black.

Robinson Envelope Clutch – The French Navy would be so versatile!

Robinson Slim Card Case – Would be great for my fab new business cards that are being sent to the printer!

Tomi Bangle (see above) – This set of two are the perfect daytime to nighttime accessories!

The only items that are not included in the promotion are their iconic Reva ballet flats, which breaks my heart because I’ve had my eyes on these amazing Python printed ones, sigh.

And I must add that if you are in the South Florida area, I highly highly highlyyy suggest that you go to the Boca store at Town Center and ask for Kristin Wrenne!  I met Kristin a little over a year ago at the store and she is so beyond amazing that she’s not only a great sales woman, but has also become a great friend (hi Kristin!).  But seriously, she is the epitome of what you want when looking for assistance: she’s patient, has fabulous style herself, and she is honest!  She wouldn’t let me buy anything that she didn’t love on me!

Hump Day Helpers: Clinique Bonus

For my next trick, I’d like to introduce you to the newest weekly segment on Live Love Lipstick: Hump Day Helpers.  Every Wednesday we will feature an array of tips, fun facts…anything that will help you tackle the rest of the work week!

Since everyone’s so busy (we currently have RH of NJ and NY airing, I mean c’mon, how are we supposed to get anything done?!) I wanted to offer a helpful reminder that Clinique Bonus is currently going on at Bloomingdale’s!

With any purchase of $28+, you can get your gift of:

-High Impact Mascara in Black

-Liquid Facial Soap Mild

-All About Eyes

-Turnaround Overnight Radiance Moisturizer

-An exclusive Bloomie’s Cosmetic Bag (missing the Milly one they’ve done before, groan)

You’ll also get your choice of a Butter Shine Lipstick, Quickliner for Eyes Intense, and a Clinique Color Compact in either Violets or Nudes.

I must say, I love how Clinique offers the choice of colors, something not all makeup lines do with their gifts.  I however somehow end up with two gifts during this event, but hey, at least they’re different!

As of now, I’m flirting with purchasing the following:

-Instant Lift Brow Pencil (1) – “Two-in-one automatic brow pencil and pearlized highlighter duo creates a contrast and definition that give eyes a virtual lift”, can’t wait to try it!

-Line Smoothing Concealer (2) – Love using this in Medium for under my eyes and I’m almost out of it, perfect timing!

-Acne Clearing Concealer (3) – Medicated concealer helps clear and prevent blemishes.  Sign me up!

-Black Honey Almost Lipstick (4) – They claim this color looks good on EVERYONE.  I’m skeptical, yet also quite intrigued!

My other recommendations would be:

-Even Better Makeup SPF 15 (A) – BIG fan of this foundation in Natural.

-All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage (B) – I actually discovered this product from a previous Bonus gift, the cool (literally) rollerball feels great on the bags.

-Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss (C) – I love this gloss in Raspberry,  it truly is super moisturizing!

Happy Hump Day Shopping!

Candy Couture

So I have been a true fan of Project Runway since it began on Bravo ten seasons ago.  I have heard Tim Gunn say “Make it work” to over 145 contenders.  I’m happy to say that Season 10 has yet to disappoint on the fashion drama that it’s known to deliver.  It should be no surprise that my favorite challenges are ones that incorporate the use of food, especially candy, so I was ecstatic when Episode 2, Candy Couture, aired.  Candy plus fashion makes for a very happy Leah!

First off, I don’t understand how they were actually able to create wearable pieces and didn’t just eat everything instead.  If I competed, I would only have enough material left over to make a pair of earrings for my model, or I’d be forced to only use black licorice so I wouldn’t be tempted to indulge.  Sorry Swatch, but I’d be happy to switch out Mood for Dylan’s Candy Bar any day!

While watching the runway show, it was clear in my opinion who the Top 3 and Bottom 3 would be.  You don’t go into the unconventional material challenge and use conventional materials (i.e. an umbrella and rain boots!).  Have you ever even seen this show Lantie?!

Gunnar’s, Sonjia’s, and Ven’s ensembles were all so chic, that you could barely even tell they were made out of sweets, putting them at the top.  It was close, but Ven stole the win with his “stained glass” rock candy dress.  Stunning.  But I’m still loving Sonjia’ gummy shark bib!

I was also partial to this challenge since a good friend of mine’s younger sister, Jaime Barker, actually participated in the Savannah College of Art and Design’s competition with Dylan’s Candy Bar during Fashion’s Night Out back in 2010.  Jaime made the most jaw-dropping, or shall I say jaw-breaking, dress and won 1st place in the competition!

Auf Wiedersehen til next time!

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

Well, we got through the first week of the blog (woop woop!) and I want to thank everyone for tuning in and I hope you’re each enjoying it thus far!  Today I wanted to launch my first installment of “Cosmetic Case of the Mondays”, where each Monday I’ll gab about something within the wonderful world of makeup!  Perhaps it will be a specific product review or maybe a whole finished look, “I don’t know, I don’t know if we’ll have enough time!”  Either way, hopefully it will help cushion the blow that a new work week is upon us and we’re back to reality (sad trombone).

This week I wanted to discuss my favorite products in MAC’s new Styleseeker collection, which is featuring fabulous colors for Fall.  I had the privilege of checking out this line first hand when I visited my favorite MAC gal, Ina, at Bloomies on Friday for a little makeup sesh.

We opted to test out the Whims & Fancies Eye Shadow x2 palette and Dark Diversion blackened plum gel liner for a purple, smokey look.  Since we were going for the darker eye we opted to keep the cheeks and lips a soft peachy pink (blush: Supercontinental; lips: Peach Blossom Lipstick with Paper Lantern Cremesheen Glass).  The end result was amazing!  You can really customize the look depending on how dramatic you want it to be.  Jared and I were going out with friends that evening for a casual dinner so I certainly didn’t want to be so done up that it seemed like this was our first time in a public establishment, so the look was fitting.  However, if you did want to intensify the eyes, putting a little bit of Urban Decay’s Busted shadow in the corner would definitely do the trick!

Here’s the complete look:

Be sure to give Ina a call if you are in the South Florida area and would like her to help figure out what fall colors would be best for you!  She literally is beyond talented, funny (added bonus) and best part is she’s HONEST!
