My YSL Makeup Date

photo 1 (14)

So last week I was given a belated birthday gift when I was invited by the Neiman Marcus in Boca to have my makeup done by YSL’s Director of Makeup Artistry, Dell Ashley. I was beyond ecstatic to get made up by him and pick his brain! We chatted, we laughed, we drank champagne. Ok, I drank champagne. It was great hearing his tips and watching him apply the makeup was truly an art. Oh and he happens to be hilarious! I also of course loved the end result! Here are some of my favorite products he used:

Touche Eclat Foundation BD50

Touche Eclat Foundation BD50: This is a great foundation! It offered great coverage along with a gorgeous illuminating glow! This would normally be a little dark for my skin tone but I had already had my birthday spray tan!

Touche Eclat 2.5

Touche Eclat 2.5: I love that this comes in so many different shades and I especially love this one, Luminous Vanilla, on my skin tone. It’s such a great highlighter, which he actually applied under my eyes, in the middle of my forehead, down my nose, on the sides of my mouth, and at the bottom of my chin. He then just mixed in just using a foundation brush.

Touche Eclat 7: This shade, Luminous Mocha, is a dark shade so Dell actually used this to contour along with the 2.5. He applied it on the sides of my forehead, just below my cheekbones, along the sides of my nose, and in the middle of my chin. He actually applied both the 2.5 and 7 together and then blended them both at the same time.

(I actually had him snap a photo of the two products on my face so I could attempt to mimic. It’s of course a terrifying photo but just email me if you want a visual.)

Volume Effet Faux Cils Luxurious Mascara

Volume Effet Faux Cils Luxurious Mascara: I was already a fan of this mascara, but now I am even more as they tweaked the formula a bit so it doesn’t dry out as quickly (it even says so right on a the box). It offers great drama along with separation, which is a must for me!

Rouge Pur Couture SPF15 Lipstick 7

Rouge Pur Couture SPF15 Lipstick 7: As you all know I’m a sucker for a gorgeous lip, specifically a bold and gorgeous lip so I was dying when Dell pulled out this shade, Le Fuchsia. And it really did give off such a silky, satiny finish.

Dessin Des Sourcils Eyebrow Pencil #3

Dessin Des Sourcils Eyebrow Pencil #3: This color, Glazed Brown, was a great color match for my brows and make them look lush and bold but still gave a soft look.

Thanks so much again to Dell and the amazing folks at Neimans!

March Magazine Article

Spring is upon us! As we welcome the arrival of the new season, here are my beauty must-haves for the month of March from my Lifestyle magazine article:

March screen shot for blog

1. Nails Inc Victoria Beckham Limited Edition Nail Polish: I’m a hug fan of the Nails Inc line of polishes (their Kensington Caviar Top and Base Coats are the best!) so I was ecstatic to see a collaboration with them and Mrs Beckham! The collection includes two limited-edition colors, Judo Red (a red orange cream) and Bamboo White (a white nude cream) and the concave glass bottles couldn’t be more chic! ($25 each or $45 for the duo set, Sephora and department stores)

2. Benefit Puff Off!: With Daylight Savings this month, I’m hoping Benefit’s new eye gel can help iron out the creases and puffiness around my eyes so I can ‘spring forward’ with smoothness. ($29; Sephora and Ulta)

3. Lancome Lip Lover: I received a sample of this and was hooked after the first application! It’s a non-sticky gloss, that gives off as much color as a lipstick and as much hydration as a balm! I especially love the colors 355: Framboise Etoile, Berry-Pink and 337: Lip Lover, Bright Berry-Pink. ($23, Sephora and department stores)

4. MAC Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation: I’m obsessed with not only the look of this foundation, but the feel of it also. The creamy formula provides great, buildable coverage and it is packed with hydration for my always-dry skin.  It leaves a smooth, satiny finish and comes in 19 shades. Tip: If you’re looking for a dewy finish, mix in a drop of MAC’s Strobe Cream or apply a thin layer prior to your foundation. ($32, MAC and department stores)

5. Sedu Revolution Diamond Styling Flat Iron: I thought I loved my old Sedu flat iron but after treating myself to this new Diamond version, I am sold! It’s extremely lightweight, has curved edges to help flip or curl your hair, and features an auto shut-off button for all of the times you think you may have left it on and are forced to run home. ($180, Folica.com and Amazon.com)

Cheers to a great month!

Fashion Friday: Birthday Edition

Don’t say I didn’t warn you… Behold, the Birthday Edition of today’s Fashion Friday. It’s so fun to online window shop, lust over pieces, and add them to a wish list. It’s like writing a letter to Santa as a kid! If I wasn’t Jewish.

Humpday Helper: Margot Robbie’s Oscar Red Lips

So while watching the Oscars, I was of course glued to the fashion and the beauty looks and I was floored when I saw the stunning Margot Robbie. Besides the fact that she’s obvi drop dead gorg, I was obsessed with her absolutely perfect red lip!  Well I immediately started googling to see if I could find out what product(s) she was wearing even though I figured it was probably a lost cause.

Was anyone else as taken aback as I was?! Or am I sounding like a lipstick stalker? Well regardless of your answer, I am proud to report that I found out what she was wearing! (Cue the deserving confetti!) If you want to achieve this Oscar-worthy red pout, you can use Hourglass Panoramic Longwear Lip Liner in Raven, followed by Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Raven.

liner and liquid lipstick

This liner is rich with pigment, longwearing, and has a blending brush on the other side! And the liquid lipstick doesn’t disappoint either with rich pigment, matte color, that is said to last 14 hours without smudging or drying. Fourteen hours!! (I of course will be using my MAC Lip Primer underneath both products as always.)

So now you can look JUST like Margot Robbie! Well, her lips at least. Baby steps…

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays – Birthday Edition!

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! I know I should be devoting today’s post to Oscar fashion, however it’s my birthday. Ahem, it’s my THIRTIETH birthday! Below are some of the makeup and beauty items on my wish list to help me dive into my 30s – without looking it (as I yell at myself that I didn’t get my greys covered in time for my party this weekend, cool).

So while I was watching the Academy Awards I was of course also doing some online window shopping and here’s what I’ve found!

Fresh Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream

Fresh Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream: My good friend Rachel, who’s an insanely talented makeup artist (be sure to contact her for your wedding or next big event if you’re in the SoFla area and stay tuned because she’s teaming up with a company called Lady Lashes, a new makeup bar coming soon to Delray!), just recommended this eye cream.  She used it this past weekend on a bride and bridesmaids and said she could see a huge difference after applying it to them!

Clarisonic SMART Profile

Clarisonic SMART Profile: If I didn’t just recently get myself a new Clarisonic Mia 2, I would totally be lusting over this brand new device by the fan favorite brand! It is said to clean your face 11x better than just using your hands. The “SMART” technology can also have the brush automatically switch from delicate to more intense when washing your face per what your skin needs. You can also buy this brush and smoother that works on your feet (like a pedicure brush).

Boscia Exfoliating Peel Gel

Boscia Exfoliating Peel Gel: This will supposedly give you the benefits of a peel, but without the harsh side effects, which is what terrifies me about peels. You instantly feel the dead skin lifting as you massage it into your skin, exfoliating it all away leaving your skin smoother, softer, and brighter looking after a single use.

la mer illuminating eye gel

La Mer Illuminating Eye Gel: If you want to truly treat yourself, this is THE gel to do so! As I wrote about it in my post last week about ‘Spring Beauty Trends’, this eye gel instantly lights up your eyes, making them look energized and awakened. And it also fights early signs of aging – hello!

Armani Silk Foundation

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation: Who likes to spend $62 on foundation? Not me. But who loves to have their skin look silky and luminous, with all-day coverage? Me! Me!

Sephora Collection Pro Airbrush Blender #78

Sephora Collection Pro Airbrush Blender #78: I am already a HUGE fan of Sephora’s Airbrush #55, so I’m really interested in trying this one which is a large brush with a pointed head allowing you to reach delicate and detailed areas such as around the eyes and nose. Each brush is made with over 100,000 bristles (woof!) and is large enough to cover your neck and décolleté.

Tom Ford Beauty Cherry Lush Lipstick

Tom Ford Beauty Cherry Lush Lipstick: Again, this is a wish list, not a realistic list so why not include a new Tom Ford lipstick?! His lipsticks are beyond luxe as they are full of pigment, glide on smooth, lasts forever, and the packaging looks amazing in your vanity or makeup bag. I’m a sucker for a red lip so I think this one would make the perfect addition to my collection.

Fear not, the Fashions/Accessories portion of the wish list will be out later this week (I’m talking to you, Jared).

Have a GREAT day!

Xo,
Leah
