Skin Care Saviors

So as I talked about yesterday, I’m currently on Operation Stop Having Shitty Skin.  I’ve already cleaned my brushes (check!) and will make sure to continue to do so monthly.  I’m guilty for never wanting to spend too much on products for my skin, as stubborn as this is, and I’d always rather spend money on the fun products that people can actually see.  However these days, they’re probably able to notice my pimples rather than pink lip, so I took advantage of some of my recent Sephora gift cards from my birthday (my friends and fam know me too well) and purchased some new skin care products.  Nothing says turning 29 than attempting to control break outs.  Here’s a break down of the new goodies I bought as well as some of my old faves.

cleanser

Cleanser

New: Korres Wild Rose Daily Brightening & Refining Buff Cleanser.  This one hasn’t arrived yet after ordering online, but I can’t wait to try.  Mix of cleanser and exfoliator that’s sensitive enough to use everyday.

Oldie but Goodie: La Roche Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cream.  I love how sensitive this is and how clean my skin feels afterwards.  I’m also a huge fan of Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash, it’s so refreshing!  I secretly stock up on all of the travel sizes when I stay at a W Hotel, shh!

exfoliator

Exfoliator

New: Glamglow Youthmud.  A mud mask that exfoliates and left my skin feeling so smooth.

Oldie but Goodie: Epicuren Apricot Facial Scrub.  A great scrub that isn’t too harsh for my sensitive and dry skin.

masks

Mask

New:  I’m now a lover of all Glamglow masks!  As I mentioned, I love how Youthmud exfoliates and I’m obsessed with Supermud, that helps fight all skin concerns and can use as a traditional mask or for spot treatment, as well as Thirstymud which hydrated my skin like woah.  For reals, I love this line!

Oldie but Goodie: Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask.  Love the feel of this mask as it bubbles on my face and I love how bright my skin feels afterwards.

moisturizer

Moisturizer

New: Bliss Triple Oxygen+C Energizing Cream.  Again, love how this line makes my skin feels and this specific product leaves my skin feeling hydrates as well as bright.

Oldie but Goodie: La Roche Posay Hydraphase Intense Rehydrating Care Moisturizer.  Perfect for hydrating my dry and sensitive skin.

What are your favorite skin care products?

Humpday Helper

Hi everyone!

Still recovering from a fabulous birthday weekend, thank you everyone for your well wishes and to those who helped celebrate!  We had a birthday brunch at our house with friends and I had a great time!  But more on that later…

So I’ve been dealing with some not so pleasant skin lately.  I blame hormones.  And laziness, sigh.  While I can’t control my hormones, I can control getting off my ass and doing something about it!  First step: clean my makeup brushes!  I realized that it had been waaaay too long since I’ve cleaned them (umm definitely haven’t cleaned them since Samuel has been born…ew) and I wanted to throw up.  Ideally, you should be cleaning your brushes once a month.  So if it has been longer side you’ve done so, clean them tonight!

brushes

Wash them in warm soapy water, using either brush cleanser or mild bar soap, rinse, blot, and either prop them up to air dry or use a blow dryer.

Step 1 is complete!  Stayed tuned tomorrow as I discuss more on skin care…

Fashion Friday

We made it to Friday, hooray!  I’m especially glad that this week is over as Jared’s been traveling and I’m so happy to have him back and to enjoy the weekend together, especially with a family wedding to attend as well my birthday – woop woop!  As I enter the last year of my 20s I’m so thankful for my friends and family and for of course my son and becoming a mom.  Despite the recent grey hairs I’m discovering, the lack of sleep, the fact that getting a mani and pedi yesterday felt like a vacay, it’s all worth it!  However in a perfect world I’d be rocking one of these fabulous fashion statements for the big day (and none of them would have spit up stains on them).

birthday outfit

Parker Kaitlyn Dress / J.Crew Polka-Dot Popover Shirt / Givenchy Antigona Satchel*, Jennifer Zeuner Kayla Bracelet / Joie Jaclyn Perforated Suede Sandals

*Please note: I’m not partial to any one color, would gladly accept any.

Have a great weekend!

Humpday Helper

Ok kids, the countdown is on…2 days until Valentine’s Day.  Still in need of a gift?  Don’t want to have to resort to buying a million chotchkies and bad chocolate at CVS?  (Cue the hilarious SNL skit from a couple of weeks ago.)  Here are a couple of great gifts that can still be ordered for that special someone, or yourself.

scottcakes

Remember those a-ma-zing cupcakes that I discovered this past summer in Cape Cod?  Well you have until 12:00p today to put your order in for a dozen (or two) Scottcakes for them to be delivered by the 14th.  Noon today, people!!

jcrew gift card

I know some people loathe giving gift cards, but sometimes they really are a nice way to give a gift that the recipient is sure to love.  The plus side is also so many companies now offer eGift Cards, aka a saving grace to the procrastinators out there.  My faves are of course to Sephora, J.Crew, and Saks 5th Avenue, all of which work great for both men and women.

blowgo-giftcard

Still not crazy about the idea of a gift card because you’re afraid it’s too impersonal?  Well what about a gift certificate to a favorite salon or spa, or how about for a blow dry bar?  For the South Florida gals, Blow & Go offers gift cards both online and in-store.  Is there a Drybar near her instead?  They offer online gift certificates as well!  And for the guy in your life, gift certificates to the movies is always a great go-to gift!  I know Jared would be in heaven if I bought him a gift certificate to iPic.

And of course don’t forget about the triple point offer at Sephora for any fragrance purchase that I talked about yesterday.  I also forgot to mention that my absolute favorite men’s cologne is Chanel Bleu…smells so good!

Hope these suggestions help!

Leah

My Few Scents

With Valentine’s Day just a couple of days away, a new perfume always serves as the perfect gift!  In honor of V-Day, Sephora is offering triple points for all Beauty Insiders on fragrance purchases through Friday, February 14th. TRIPLE POINTS!!

nirvana black

Fortunately there are a bunch of new fragrances that just came out by top designers: Tory Burch, Chloe Roses de Chloe, Balenciaga Rosabotanica, Philosophy Loveswept, and more.  My new favorite scent that just hit the shelves is Elizabeth and James Nirvana, which actually come in two separate scents, Nirvana Black and Nirvana White.  Personally, I’m a fan of the Black scent.  Best part is that both versions come in vintage-inspired bottles as well as rollerballs…love!

perfumes

Not a fan of the new fragrances?  Check out my other go-to’s: Flowerbomb, Jimmy Choo, and Gucci Guilty (all of which are also available in rollerball).

What’s your new favorite fragrance?

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

Hello hello!

Just when I was talking a big game about getting back into blogging, I take another two week hiatus…I at least hope you noticed!  Let’s see, what’s been new over the past two weeks, hmm…we braced the cold and went up north to visit my mom and grandparents where Samuel debuted his winter wardrobe (that was beyond cute btw), we’ve since defrosted back home and have been experiencing some beautiful weather (sorry for everyone who doesn’t live in So Fla), we’ve entered my birthday month (woop woop!), spent time with friends and fam, and I was able to attend an awesome beauty event at Bloomies last week!  ”The Makeup Date” featured representatives from top makeup and beauty companies to present the newest trends and bestsellers in the industry.  I was clearly in heaven.

airflash

One of the products that really drew everyone’s interest was Diorskin Airflash spray foundation.  I’ve been a fan of this for years (except for the price, groan) but many women were practically salivating listening about this “perfection in a bottle”.  Available in 10 shades, this ultra-light foundation offers amazing coverage with an airbrush effect.  To achieve this runway-ready look, you can either apply by itself spraying a “Z” on your face and letting dry or you can apply directly to your brush (I love using Sephora Collection Pro Airbrush #55) and then buff it on (my preferred method).  One of the best things about this foundation is that it’s non-transferable, meaning you won’t ever have to feel like the ass who got makeup on everyone you hugged that day.  Another great tip, spray it on arms and legs for color or even behind the knees to cover up any unwanted visible veins.

primer and matte touch

Also available are the Airflash CC Primer – Radiance Booster Color Correcting Primer and Airflash Matte Touch.  The CC Primer promises to color correct imperfections, erase shadows, even out skintone, and brighten dull complexions, while the Matte Touch helps set your makeup all day with a velvety matte finish, absorbing oils and eliminating shine.

More tips from The Makeup Date coming soon…

Cheers to a great week!

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

I hope everyone had a terrific weekend!  I attended a good friend’s beautiful wedding where I was able to reunite with a bunch of my sorority sisters.  We had so much fun catching up as well as tearing up the dance floor!  I also watched a little football, as well as an amazingggg SNL.  It completely solidified my absolute love for Drake.  I could no joke watch his monologue over and over.  I heart Drizzy.

lollitint

I took advantage of Samuel passed out in his stroller the other day and ran into Sephora to play with some new goodies and I immediately bee-lined to Benefit’s newest stain, Lollitint.  Benefit already has quite a collection of stains and enhancers, but this new one has everyone absolutely raving so I was itching to try the candy-orchid stain on my cheeks and lips.  I had actually just removed all of my makeup (gasp!) to get color matched for foundation via Sephora + Pantone’s Color IQ and realized I had to walk around the rest of the mall completely bare faced (double gasp!!) so I decided I might as well try on Lollitint bare faced to truly be able to see how I liked the color.  I loved the orchid toned tint it provided and can only imagine it paired with a regular face of makeup, especially since you’re able to build the color.

Applying these can be a little tricky, the best way is to brush three strokes on the apple of your cheek (definitely do one at a time) and blend quickly with your fingertips (pointer and middle fingers) or you could blend with a foundation brush.  For lips, just dab on and blend.  It can of course always be paired with some balm or gloss.  Benefit had posted this help how-to on their blog a couple of years ago for their cult favorite Benetint, which obviously would apply to Lollitint as well.

Be sure to check out Benefit’s other bestseller’s: Benetint, High Beam, Posietint, Cha Cha Tint, and Sun Beam.

Cheers to a great week!

Leah
