Cosmetic Case of the Mondays: BUXOM Lips

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We were able to finally relax and spend time with friends and family, participated in a walk against Alzheimer’s, caught the new Bond movie, and did a little retail therapy (don’t forget Bloomies Friends & Family end today!), including using my Sephora 20% discount on quite a few goodies!

I added a new lip gloss to my already large Buxom lip collection, as I can’t get enough of them!  I’m such a fan of this entire line, they include some fun colors and are moderately prices compared to its competitors.  There are multiple versions of this popular gloss and I love them all and the color and plump they give!

Buxom Big & Healthy – The original, a pout-perfecting, sheer coverage, shimmering lip gloss.  The subtle tingling reminds you that the plumper is working!  My favorite colors are Samantha (light nude), Katie (pale pink), and I just got Dolly (shimmering plum) from Sephora’s Super Stars gift set.

Big & Healthy Lip Cream - A creamy, pout-perfecting gloss for voluptuous lips.  No shimmer, just a fabulous creamy shine.  My favs of the lip cream are White Russian (nude pink) and I purchased Berry Blast (vivid fuchsia) this weekend and I love it!

Full-Bodied Lip Gloss - An ultra-hydrating, volumizing lip gloss with a smooth, soft-cushion sensation.  This gloss offers the most color of all of the others.  I recently purchased the color OMG (sparkling boysenberry) and I have to tell you I’m so excited about it!  I’ve been really into the berry and wine colors and even though I usually prefer them to be in a matte lipstick, this gloss is ridic!  It’s also been selling out like crazy if that’s at all telling.  I’m also tempted to try out Hot Mama (scarlet) next time I’m in Sephora, i.e. sometime this week.

I highly recommend trying one of these glosses in the near future.  If you want some more color and coverage, you can try pairing it with one of the Big & Healthy Lip Tarnishes (a plump and moisturizing lip stain) underneath.

Here’s to a plump week!

Fashion Friday: Holiday Weekend Sales & Promos!

We made it, it’s finally Fashion Friday!  It’s been quite the week!  We’ve survived the election as well as Khloe Kardashian-Odom’s second week at co-hosting X Factor, we deserve some retail therapy!  Luckily with it being a holiday weekend (Sunday is Veterans Day) we get treated to some amazing sales and promos!

With all of this week’s activities I unfortunately didn’t have time to pick out my fav picks like I usually like to do, but I wanted to list some of the extra great deals this weekend to score all of the clothing, shoes, and accessories you’ve been coveting lately!

  • Bloomingdales is on Friends and Family (20% off) yet again!  Don’t get me wrong, I’m certainly not complaining but with as many times as it seems like they’ve done F&F this year, you’d think they’re the Duggar’s of retailers!
  • Saks is doing a 40% off promo on selected items, but hurry, this ends today!  I’ve already placed my order for this dress I’ve been wanting.  (Jared don’t get mad, get proud…look at the savings!)
  • Neiman Marcus is running a 3-Day Spree Sale through Monday, which includes tons of amazing markdowns!!  (Many of which are 30%!!)

Keep an eye out for emails from your favorite stores who may send out announcements of sales and promos for the holiday weekend.

Also, for all the Sephora VIB members out there, don’t forget our 20% off weekend has finally arrived!  I feel like stocking up so much you’d think I was a squirrel storing for Winter.  As long as I’m a squirrel with a fabulous glow and amazing lashes…

After you get yourself some new fashion goodies, do a good deed by cleaning out your closet and donating to victims of Hurricane Sandy.  There are tons of groups and organizations collecting items to send to those affected by the storm, find one near you and do your part to help!

Have a great weekend!

Hair Care Obsession

Just with many other types of beauty and makeup products, I have a massive hair care collection.  Like for reals.  I clearly have just one head of hair, why do I need so much product for it?!  Because I’m a crazy girl person and am always looking for something new and fabulous.  In my mind, perhaps they have created a new dry shampoo product where there are tiny little worker bees who get sprayed on and scrub away the dirt all in one spritz.  Maybe they’ve developed a new texturizing spray that will not only transform my hair in to Blake Lively’s, but it was actually transform me into Blake Lively.  Hello new hubby Ryan Reynolds!  The point is, you just never know so it is my duty to try them all!  (Or so I tell myself.)

Well, I can finally say that I’ve found not only a new product I love, but a whole new line that I’m beyond obsessed with!  Catwalk by TIGI is a new line found in many salons (as well as online of course) that is actually made up of four different collections: Session Series (Styling Collection), Sleek Mystique (Straight Collection), Curlesque (Curl Collection), and Your Highness (Volume Collection).

So far I’ve tried products in both the Session Series as well as Your Highness and I keep loving each new product I try!  The Session Series contains my new favorite hairspray, Work It Hairspray.  This stuff is no joke  the best hairspray I’ve ever used!  It’s light, flexible, keeps my hair soft and when I say it smells amazing, I may or may not have ever left the house without purposely forgetting perfume when I’ve used it in my hair.  I’ll even give my locks a little mist of it when dirty just to make it smell good.  HIGHLY recommend!  I’m also wanting to try the Salt Spray from this series.  (Clearly still on a mission to become Mrs. Reynolds somehow! Sorry Jar…)

I have to admit I’ve quickly become a bit obsessed with Your Highness Collection.  I started out trying the Root Boost Spray but was still a little skeptical as I have tried countless different root lifters.  After falling in love with the Session Series Work It Hairspray, I decided to give this one a shot.  Well, I’m here to say that this by far is the best root lifter I’ve EVER used!  So many others sound like they’re going to give me great volume and using it will be like serving my roots a shot of espresso and yet they never seem to deliver (more like decaf espresso…), but I can actually tell such a difference with this one!  And it was all downhill from there.  I am proud to say that I now also use the Elevating Shampoo, Nourishing Conditioner,  and Weightless Shine Spray.  Each of these products truly work as they claim they should and also smell amazing!  I was able to score the shampoo and conditioner in the giant 25 oz. pump bottles in a set for a great price!

These are definitely products worth the try!

Humpday Helper: Congrats are in Order

Today’s Humpday Helper is actually something helpful for me, but then again I guess that’s the beauty of having your own blog!  I would like you to help me in congratulating my husband, Jared, on winning his election for State Representative yesterday!  He is such a hard worker and poured his heart and soul into this campaign!  Just as he did with his first election at the age of 25, Jared ran this race with integrity and class and had an amazing team of support backing him. I know Jared will do an amazing job in Tallahassee, however I refuse to refer to him now as Representative, per his request.

Now that the election is over and the results are in I can focus on what’s important, what will I wear to his swearing in?  Should I channel my inner Kate or Jackie?  Hmm…

Thanks to everyone for the support!

Election Day At Last!

The day has come, it is Election Day!  The political ads, direct mail pieces, emails, and phone calls will all end today!  (Unfortunately so will a lot of the satire on SNL which I so enjoy.) While I voted last Sunday during Early Voting, I will be at the polls ALL day today to proudly support my husband who is running for State Representative (quick plug!).  Regardless of who you support or what your beliefs, exercise your right to vote!

Now while I know this is by no means a political blog, I still wanted to express how important I personally feel today is.  Here’s a fun quote I found to lighten the mood:

“Popularity should be no scale for the election of politicians.  If it would depend on popularity, Donald Duck and The Muppets would take seats in senate” – Orson Welles

Sorry, but you know I can’t resist anything Muppet related!  Which is why I also have to share this gem, apparently Muppet fan site Tough Pigs is staging a Muppet election.  Cookie Monstoer and Grover are battling Rizzo and Gonzo.  (I’m literally giggling like an idiot while I type this, fyi.)

I also wanted to leave on a fashionably good note, check out the makeover I gave my Louis tote for tomorrow with Kate Spade election buttons I scored in ’08!

Rock the Vote!

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays: Wedding Worthy Lips

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!  Personally I had a truly amazing weekend serving as a bridesmaid to one of my best friend Jaime’s wedding. Everything was perfect and we had an absolute blast, and I want to take a second to tell both Jaim and Casey (Case, don’t act like you don’t read the blog!) Mazel Tov and I love you both!

Moving on…When one of my friends pulls out any makeup, I’m like a hound dog.  I sniff it out, inspect it, and just about everything else short of lick it.  So when we were getting our hair and makeup done for the big day in the bridal suite and one of our best friends, Lara, pulled out her own lipstick and lipgloss, I was all over it.

She’s been using Chanel Lipgloss #119, WIld Rose, and it is such a gorgeous pink shade and doesn’t dry out.  Like many other glosses, you can mix and layer it for different looks.  Lara chose to wear it over MAC’s Viva Glam V Lipstick (one of our fav go-to neutrals) underneath and then the Chanel gloss on top.  The finished lip looked great, especially paired with our dramatic, smokey eyes! (As seen in the fabulous picture below with the stunning bride and myself.)

So we all know that anything leather is so in right now, but did you know there’s an animal-friendly (and wallet-friendly) alternative called vegan leather?  And don’t start thinking this is like granola leather that “Clueless” turned Hippie Alecia Silverstone wears while pre-chewing her son’s food.  This stuff is HOT!

Tinley Road Vegan Leather Peplum Top (need to order ASAP!!). Free People Vegan Leather Skirt. Blank Denim Vegan Leather Pants. Free People Vegan Leather Shorts. Blank Denim Vegan Leather Jacket. Sanctuary Vegan Leather Ponte Pencil Skirt. Tinley Road Vegan Leather Shift Dress. Free People Vegan Leather Seamed Skinny Pant.

Loving the Vegan? All of the above can be found at Piperlime.com.

See, and you don’t even need to be named Bear Blu to rock it!

Have a great weekend!

Leah
