Phillip Lim for Target

So as I explained yesterday, I meant to blog about the highly anticipated Phillip Lim for Target collection that went on sale on Sunday last Friday, but clearly let an adorable newborn boy get in the way.  Guilty.  Well now that most of the collection is sold out I can only share my experience and thoughts on the line with you and possibly help your decision on whether you shell out the dough and buy some items on ebay.

Boom! sweater

If only you could have seen Jared’s face when I shared with him my plans to wake up early on Sunday morning to visit our local Target store before it opened at 8am.  He thought I had completely lost my mind, but I reassured him that I wouldn’t be gone for long and would go back to bed once done.  I truthfully didn’t know what to expect as I’ve never done any Black Friday shopping, but I made it a point not to share with him my fear of being the preggo getting pushed out of the way by fellow crazy shoppers.  I was relieved to see that by the time I pulled up (in my pjs, sans makeup no less) to the store, I was only the second person there with just over 10 minutes until the doors opened.  We were then joined by three others and all soon became friends as we made a promise to play fair and shared with each other what we had our eyes set on and vowed to help each other out.  Look at that!  I wasn’t going to get accosted for a bag after all, woop woop!

yellow mini satchel

Once the brave Target employee opened the door for us, we made a mad dash and I was happy to be greeted by the Boom! sweater that I had on my wish list.  Yes, the same sweater Jessica Alba rocked earlier in the month at the Phillip Lim for Target party in NYC.  One item down, now on to the bags!  I hadn’t decide previously which one(s) I wanted so I threw a couple in my cart and headed to the mirror to check out my finds.  For a fraction of the cost of his regular purses, he did a fantastic job for creating the affordable line!  The bags were designed beautifully and look great!  Don’t get me wrong, they’re still an inexpensive version of his luxe bags, but I’ve spent the same amount of money on a bag from Forever and these are way nicer.  I ended with a couple more than I thought I would but couldn’t be happier!  My favorites are the Top Handle Crossbody in Black (as seen with Alba) and the Yellow Mini Satchel with Gusset.

leopard scarf

I also picked up some accessories such as the Leopard and Boom! scarves, as well as French Terry Sweatpants and the Long Sleeve Floral Blouse.  Clearly bought a bit more than I should have, but figured I’d buy it while I could and avoid regrets.  I can always join the others and sell some on ebay!

Were you able to score some pieces?  If so what are your faves?

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  My apologies for no Fashion Friday post last week; I had full intentions of covering the Phillip Lim for Target collection that went on sale yesterday, but I was too preoccupied, excited, frazzled, and every other fabulous adjective one can possess when one of their best friend’s goes into labor!  I’m beyond happy to congratulate our friends who have turned into family, Lara and Scott, on the arrival of their adorable son, Ethan!  I had such an incredible past couple of days spending time with the now Family of 3, as well as our own family for Yom Kippur.  (We’ll discuss the Phillip Lim for Target collection later…)

I get so giddy when someone I know or even better, someone I don’t personally know, reaches out to me with a makeup inquiry, tip, etc.  It’s a great feeling knowing people are actually reading and now interacting!  (Side note: I forgot to share that I was at the mall a couple of weeks ago taking advantage of Clinique Bonus at Bloomies when two women came up to me letting me know that they recognized me and that they follow my blog.  I almost fell over…and then realized how disgusting I looked and that they must be second guessing who they’re taking makeup and fashion advice from.  I even asked Jared if he secretly knew them or paid them to tell me that.)  It was great to receive a message from one of my sorority sisters, Samantha, asking if I had tried out Loreal’s new Magic Nude Liquid Powder.  I always get so excited to try a new product, especially a good drugstore find, so I ran out the next day to do so to allow me to report back with my thoughts!  Here’s my breakdown:

magic nude

Pros:

  • Cheap.  You can probably find it for $10-14.
  • Comes in 12 different shades.  I opted for Buff Beige, which was a really pretty color!
  • Blended in really nicely, best to do so with your fingers.

Cons:

  • Not the easiest to dispense since you have to shake really well and then just let it pour out on your fingers and it’s very thin and it’s seriously liquidy.
  • Comes in a glass bottle which in theory sounds nice, but once again doesn’t help dispensing and I’m just waiting for it to fall, break, and Jared kill me.
  • The coverage is not strong, which could be a pro for some people but definitely a con for me.

All in all I enjoy the color and the overall look of the product but since I prefer a full coverage, I prefer wearing it along with foundation and possibly another pressed powder.  Yes, I’m a closet drag queen.

Cheers to a great week!

Humpday Helper

I want to take today to talk about one of my favorite websites for online shopping, ASOS.  I know many of you reading this are probably already aware of ASOS, if not already loyal customers, but just in case you’re not already familiar with the UK based company let me show you the light.

This online shopping haven offers Men and Women’s clothing, shoes, bags, and more and is available for purchase from several countries (tip: if shopping in the US make sure you’re on the US version of the site, just check the flag drop down menu in the top right corner of the site) featuring their brand as well as other designer brands.  I love how big the selection is and love even more the array of prices.  You can score such amazing items for great prices, or you can splurge on something luxe.

ASOS

Since I’m currently 8 months preggo I have a new found love and appreciation for the company as they sell maternity clothes, something that some of you may not have even realized!  I’ve avoided spending a lot on maternity items like it’s the plague (only splurged on some jeans and even those I found on sale at Shopbop and Bloomies), but have been able to score such great finds from ASOS!

One of the best things about ordering from this site is the fact that shipping and returns are so easy, something that I know deters some of you from ordering online.  Put together a big order of $140+ and receive 2 free day shipping with promo code EXPRESSUSA.  (The scary part is how easy it is to get to $140 worth of merchandise, even with smaller price tags!).

Definitely check out the site today, as well as regularly since they’re constantly adding new items!

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend!  Mine was intended to be low key as I was exhausted and still was fighting a bit of a cold, but on Saturday night I was surprised with a “Mom To Be” dinner party in Miami with my girlfriends and spouses all planned by Jared.  They were all instructed not to bring a baby gift, but instead a little something for me or something that would be helpful to have for the hospital.  It was such a great evening filled with amazing food, friends, and laughter.  I felt so loved and grateful!  Thanks to my incredible friends and husband for making it happen!

YSL 10

Well I know Fall hasn’t officially begun yet and I already can’t shut up about wine and berry colored lips.  I also know that sometimes I don’t give credit to colors that look better on blondes or farer skin tones (aka Betty’s) since I’m such a Veronica and stick to what selfishly looks best on me.  Well thanks to my blonde friend Rachel who looked beyond ready for the upcoming season on Saturday night I can now HIGHLY recommend an amazing berry lip as she looked amazeballs wearing YSL’s Vernin A Levres Glossy Stain in 10 – Rouge Philtre.  I am already a fan of these glosses as they actually combine the texture and shine of a gloss with the long wear of a stain.  And no joke, they seriously stay for such a long time!  This color looked so fabulous on Rachel that I may have to test to see how it looks on brunettes as well!

Essie Bordeaux

Fortunately Rachel made it easy on me as she had also paired it with the perfect nail color, Essie’s Bordeaux, which I’m already a huge fan of!  Be sure to check out both to help complete the perfect Fall look!

Cheers to a great week!

Tom Ford Beauty

Last week I was invited to my local Neiman Marcus to check out the exclusive new Tom Ford Beauty shop which was one of the most gorgeous makeup counters I’ve ever seen before.  I was able to learn all about the new makeup collection (which Mr. Ford himself has been working on developing for years) and then I was able to get dolled up with the fab products from the line, including the new Fall colors, AND was even sent home with some goodies.  I was in makeup heaven!

I believe that beauty comes from expressing your personality.  Cosmetics should help you amplify your individuality and showcase something unique about yourself and your style. – Tom Ford

While the collection is pricey, you can definitely see how much time and effort was spent into developing the collection.  From the packaging (which left me smitten) to the design of the products, you can see how much was put into the design of such products.  Tom is even the mastermind behind some of the names of the colors (hint: the naught names were probably his idea…love).  It is a full makeup line that includes face, lips, eyes, nails, and brushes, which means there are way too many products for me to go into debt over.

Tom Ford

Face: The first item that caught my attention was the Illuminating Protective Primer.  This primer increases cellular vitality, helps protect the skin while enhancing texture, toning and visibly brightening the skin.  It not only primed my skin to enhance and prolong my makeup but it offered such a gorgeous illuminating glow.  Another one of my favorite face products that I tried out was the Traceless Foundation Stick.  This foundation stick helps create a flawless and smooth finish.  You can build the coverage to deliver sheer, medium, or full coverage and can also be used as a concealer to diminish imperfections.  I then discovered the wonders of the Illuminating Highlight Pen, which was no surprise that I would be a fan of as I’ve blogged about highlighting pens in the past.  Similar to the YSL Touche Eclat and Givenchy Mister Light pens, this helps you enhance, contour, or diminish your features to create the appearance of symmetry.  What I love about this highlight erpen is it comes in 8 shades: four that really truly illuminate and balance your skin and four that act as skin-priming concealers.  All give off an amazing finish that I couldn’t get enough of!  To help polish off the face, I loved the Cheek Color Blush in the best-selling color Wicked, gorg!

Lips: I was already a huge fan of the lipsticks as I have previously expressed my love of the unique color Violet Fatale Lip Color and how rich of a color it is and how smooth of a finish it gives.  Seriously, nothing not to love about these lipsticks!  Well, as soon as my uber-talented makeup artist applied the Fall color Bruised Plum, I was hooked.  Such a gorgeous shade and it screamed Fall, which I of course loved!  These lipsticks are a must try!

Eyes: There are 10 different eye shadow quads which are all beautiful and make it so easy to achieve the perfect eye look!  I also happened to really like the Eye Primer Duo.  This includes a unique powder and cream primer that enhances the performer of the eye shadow by preventing creasing and extending wear of up to 15 hours!  But what had me seriously flipping my lid was the Brow Sculptor.  I beyond love this product and love how much Tom Ford thinks eyebrows are one of the most important elements of the face and went on to create the ultimate brow product!  It features a unique calligraphy tip which allows a tailor-made stroke, from thin to wide.  Flip it over and the opposite-end includes a grooming brush, then twist the cap counterclockwise to reveal the sharpener.  After applying to my brows it truly did transform my face.  Move over Lily Collins!

So I clearly fell in love with everything about this collection and while the prices are high and you may not want to go out and get every piece, I highly recommend you testing some out and treating yourself to whatever you fall in love with (which I’m telling you, will definitely happen!) as these products really are luxe!

All together now, “I rock Tom Ford”…thanks HOVA for the background music while I get ready!

Xo,

Leah
