Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  We celebrated birthdays of friends (both for a one year old and 30 year old) and started getting ready for Samuel’s birthday party which is this Sunday, all the while Sam was finishing up his first cold.  Fun!  We also got to catch up on our DVR with the return of some Fall shows.  Heads up, Modern Family and New Girl are as funny as ever and we didn’t laugh once during SNL.  Sorry Chris Pratt, but it was beyond dull.

Shiseido

To remove my makeup every night I use good old Neutrogena makeup remover wipes and then wash up.  The wipes are great, cheap, and a cult classic but sometimes I have to scrub a little too hard than I’d like depending on how much makeup I’m wearing.  When I read about Shiseido’s new makeup remover, The Skincare Instant Eye and Lip Makeup Remover, I was beyond intrigued.  It’s an easy and gentle formula geared to remove even the trickiest of makeups: waterproof and long-wearing eye makeup as well as lipsticks.  The fact that it’s specifically meant for lipstick is amazing because they can sometimes feel near impossible to completely remove.  It also protects skin against dehydrations, and yet doesn’t leave the skin feeling oily.  I’m so excited to try it!

Cheers to a fabulous week!

Fall Look: Oxblood

It’s here!  It’s finally here!  Fall is here, my most favorite season!  While that may not mean much of a difference in SoFla (uhh pretty sure we’re still knee deep in hot and humid thunderstorms, definitely Summertime Sadness), but we can at least attempt to experience the beginning of the new season with the rest of the country.  We’ll get our fall flavored drinks, start boot shopping, hell I even had some sliced apples and caramel as a light night snack last night.  Ya know, totally just to get in the mood.  Another change for me is darkening up some of my makeup and nothing gets me more in the spirit of Fall like some oxblood!

Here are a couple of my favorite oxblood colors for my nails and lips!

oxblood

MAC Diva Lipstick: Matte reddish-burgundy
NARS Audacious Audrey Lipstick: Red Currant
NARS Audacious Charlotte Lipstick: Oxblood Burgundy (Totally obsessed with these new “Audacious” lipsticks btw!!)
MAC Hang-Up Lipstick: Deep Berry
Revlon Vixen Nail Polish: A classic drugstore fav, similar to Chanel’s ‘Vamp’
L’Oreal Paris Hot Couture Red Nail Polish: A true brownish oxblood shade
Essie Bordeaux Nail Polish: A deep red wine (a little more red than the classic ‘Wicked’)

Which is your fav?

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

Hello hello!

I know it’s been a while, I’ve been keeping myself busy with life especially planning Samuel’s first birthday party that’s slowly approaching (less than 2 weeks!), which I will be sure to post about!  It’s pathetic how much planning you can find yourself putting into a birthday party for someone who won’t remember it.  But I will!

shea terra organic

So while planning the party I’ve also been dealing with Sam’s teething and first cold, causing a bit of stress (not to mention cheering on my Noles!!) so I’m now stuck dealing with an outbreak, ugh.  I’ve been trying to be good with removing my makeup, washing and exfoliating thoroughly, and applying spot treatment and masks.  Luckily I recently bought myself a new face wash, Shea Terra Organics – Rose Hips Black Soap Deep Pore Facial Wash & Mask, and I am loving it!

African Black Soap is praised for battling blemishes and the signs of aging and the rose hips oil is meant to leave your face feeling clean and refreshed.  Since it’s 100% natural, it’s meant to be gentle enough for the most sensitive skins (including mine).  I do still think it sometimes dries out my face a tad, but that could certainly be the combination of everything else I’m using, so I make sure to mix it up with some of my other cleansers.  With the pricing of this wash being low, I’m looking forward to trying other Shea Terra Organics products, such as the Authentic African Black Soap bar and the Nilotica East African Shea Butter.

Cheers to a great week everyone!

Humpday Helper

Do you like gabbing on your phone?  How about having clear skin?  Looking for a way to accomplish both?  If your answers are yes, yes, and an obvi hell yes then I have the solution for you and today’s Humpday Helper!  I introduce to you GoSwype microfiber cleaning cloths (insert ta-da sound!).

Ipad Stock Photo

GoSwype cloths kill 98% of germs and bacteria to help leave you with a clearer screen and thus clearer skin.  Impressive.  Not fully convinced?  Well your touchscreen is 18 times dirtier than a public restroom handle.  Vom!  I’m sure many of you are like me and wouldn’t think of touching a restroom handle without using a paper towel, let alone rub my face all over it.  To help kill these vile germs, just take your GoSwype and with two fingers rub your screen in a circular motion and return back to its resealable vinyl sleeve.  It leaves your screen non-streaky and will help eliminate blemishes due to the nasty dirt, oil, and grime.  These wipes are inexpensive, last approximately two weeks, and hello, check out the adorbs prints and patterns they come in!

P.S.  They have already been featured in Cosmo, The Today, Show, Wired, Marie Claire, Glamour, and now Live Love Lipstick, hey!

Be sure to check out GoSwype today and add them to your beauty routine!

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  We had a pretty chill weekend, dodging some crappy weather, but the real highlight was that my best friend gave birth to the most beautiful baby boy on Friday!  I was able to meet him on Saturday and I of course fell in love instantly! Even though Sam’s almost one (turned 11 months on Friday which makes the boys exactly 11 months apart!), it was like I forgot how tiny they are when born!  And Sam’s not even a big boy!  All my love to both families and baby Mason!

Moving on to the makeup…

voluminous butterfly mascara

You’d be shocked (or not) to know how many mascaras are currently living in my bathroom.  I’m not even going to count.  It’s like Melrose Place of mascaras.  But of course once I hear of another good one, it’s move-in day!  So last weekend my good friend Julie told me how she’s loving her new L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara.  That it’s so good it almost makes her mad that it’s so cheap while she owns other pricey ones.  Obvi I had to check it out for myself!

So the “butterfly brush” is pretty intense!  Its asymmetrical lash line is intended to extend and lift outer corner lashes to give you a winged-out effect, volumizing lashes at the roots and stretching lashes outward.  It also contains Cocoon Fibers that are meant to wrap lashes to create silky and spectacular lashes that flutter.  Feel like Mariah Carey yet?!

I have to say I really did like it!  Especially for drugstore mascara!  I of course used my Dior Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum primer underneath (I’m not kidding when I say I ALWAYS use it underneath EVERY mascara!) and I loved the formula of the mascara itself (I went with Blackest Black) and the brush is pretty cool!  A bit funny to use at first but definitely easy once you get the hang of it.  I just had to make sure I wasn’t going to poke myself or anything.  All in all, a great find!  Thanks Jules!!

Cheers to a great week and go Noles!

September Magazine Article

So it’s September.  I’ll say the same thing I say every month…wtf?!  Check out my new magazine article for the Lifestyle Media Group South Florida magazines featuring some of my favorite products for the upcoming month and season!

September screen shot

It’s September, can you believe it?!  Kids are back to school, the temperature is (hopefully) getting cooler, Summer’s ending, and Fall is upon us!  Here are a couple of products to help us welcome my most favorite season!

Dr. Man’s Lashes, $79 for 3 month supply: Always longing for dramatic, long lashes but mascaras aren’t doing the trick and you don’t want to spend the money and time on eyelash extensions?  Try a lash enhancement to get the job done!  Available at Dr. Man’s office in Boca Raton, (561) 395-5508.

Ole Henriksen Ultimate Lift Eye Gel, $42: Now that the vacas are over and it’s back to school, it’s time to refresh your tired eyes with this cooling eye gel.  Sometimes I have dry patches on or around my eye lid so I love how this gel calms, cools, de-puffs, and deeply moisturizes them and leaves my eye area brighter and smoother.  Available at Sephora.

AEsthetica Cosmetic Contour Kit, $59: I’m currently obsessed with this kit, which includes six colors and diagrams on how to contour per your face shape. It’s basically “Contouring for Dummies” making it less intimidating…love it!  Stock up now because AEsthetica is offering readers 50% off all orders for the month of September with promo code LIVELOVELIPSTICK. Available at www.aesthetica.me

Oribe Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray, $39: While Summer may be ending, the humidity in South Florida isn’t.  A finishing spray to help my hair fight it and keep my blowout frizz-free?  Yes please!  Available at Sogno Salon of Parkland, 7305 N. State Road 7, (954) 906-5135, www.sognosalonfl.com.

Essie After School Boy Blazer Nail Polish, $5-9: While I’m no Al Roker, one of the biggest indicators that the seasons are changing, in my opinion, is my nail polish color changes.  While I’ve been sporting all of my bright reds the past couple months, I’m ecstatic to go darker for Fall and specifically try this polish on for size!  Available at drug stores and Amazon.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer, $24:  Want anti-aging benefits and to conceal imperfections under your eyes?  Look no further for your new favorite under eye concealer.  While it doesn’t crease (yay!), it covers everything and leaves you looking younger.  Available at Ulta.

Lorac TANtalizer Body Bronzing Spray with Puff, $32: Just because Summer is leaving us, doesn’t mean our tan has to as well.  I love the spray applicator as well as the puff for a mess-free, streak-free tan every time!  Who doesn’t look an easy tan?!  Available at Ulta.

Have a spectacular September and stay tuned for next month’s article!

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!  Ours was filled with friends and family, celebrating birthdays and graduations.  It was of course finished by watching RHONJ (umm seriously Rino?? Gross.) and the VMAs.  As we were cringing/watching, Jared asked how old we can be until we stop watching because I think we’re almost there.  For reals.  I was beyond embarrassed for T-Swift and her performance. What’s worse than watching her dance on stage?  Watching her dance in the audience, gag.  And yet, we’re still the morons watching teenagers win a moon man.

So I know I talked about some items I was dying to try last week including the Givenchy Noir Couture Volume Mascara and I had every intention of trying that when I walked into Sephora the other day, but that was until I heard that they had the new Marc Jacobs O!Mega Lash Volumizing Mascara.  I’m actually not a fan of the first mascara that Marc (obvi on a first name basis) put out, Lash Lifter, because I personally don’t like gel mascaras, but I had heard such great things about this new one that I was still curious.  And then my fav Sephora makeup artist dropped the bomb on me that this was her new.favorite.mascara.  Woah.  Seconds later I was on line purchasing…

So I of course pair this with Dior’s Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum and I love it!!  It gives me great dramatic lashes, without the clumping.  The secret (besides the fab formula) is the double brush that features an innovative design that stitches two different brushes together; one that separates lashes and one that provides mega-volume and curl.  And I’m seriously digging the sleek design.  I highly recommend checking out O!Mega!

Cheers to a great week!

Leah
