I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! We had a great time with friends and family, watched some movies (highly recommend seeing The Neighbors especially if you’re new parents. And holy Zac Efron! Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re in High School Musical anymore…), celebrated a first birthday, and of course last night’s Heat win!

Well it’s June now which means the first day of summer is upon us (despite the fact that we’ve been feeling the heat wave for months now, even when the rest of the country was still in scarves, things could be worse…). Humpday Helper: Turtle Power!

Today’s Humpday Helper is quite simple: pay it forward.

Last week a two year old little boy, James Edwards, accidentally fell into his pool. The tragic accident occurred just after his parents gave birth to their newborn little boy, Anthony. It’s unfathomable, unimaginable, and simply heartbreaking. The family (whom I went to high school with) is asking people to send prayers, love, and happy thoughts and created a Facebook page, Turtle Power for James Edwards, in honor of his love for The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to share updates. As they and all of their family, friends, and city of Coral Springs, FL wait to see exactly what James’s condition is, they encourage those following their story to pay it forward in honor of James. Do good for others and your community and get everyone buzzing about James and his turtle power! Buy someone’s lunch, hold a door, purchase a coffee for the car behind you in the drive-thru. Spread the word and do it for James!

Never Have I Ever…

You guys remember the game, don’t you? Ok, here it goes. Never have I ever…worn colored mascara. Did anyone take a shot?!

Colored mascara has been around forever and continues to pop up every so often in makeup trends as most other trends do, however I’ve never played along. I always thought of it as being very 80s to me (not that there’s anything wrong with that…hello ultimate college social theme!) and having such dark eyes I never thought it’d be worth it or look good on me. And yet I still am left a little curious, especially with it coming to life again by some of the most popular makeup brands.

If you’ve been in a Sephora or high end department store lately you’ve probably seen promos for Dior’s new Addict It-Lash Mascara. It claims to add volume, length, and also comes in four colors for intense impact. It’s available in black, blue, purple, and pink. Purple tends to be the most universally flattering so if I were to take the plunge it’s definitely the color I would opt for.

There are also plenty of drugstore brands that also offer a splash of color on the lashes if you don’t want to make such a financial commitment (the Dior mascara is $26), such as Almay Intense I-Color Volumizing Mascara available in Plum and Sapphire, NYX Cosmetics Color Mascara in Purple and Blue Dream, and Maybelline’s Great Lash Washable Mascara that comes in Royal Blue,

Tip: To accomplish a more subtle yet fun look, layer a colored coat over your typical black coat.

Ok, so I know I said I was going to start writing and posting more and then I went MIA for another week, cool. I at least have a good excuse as I was away this past week celebrating my mom’s 60th birthday as well as my beloved grandparent’s 64th wedding anniversary (cue the aww’s)! I had an amazing time with my family and Samuel was even a baller on the plane, woop woop!

So since I’m now a stay at home mom and have been spending more time outdoors on walks and playdates in the parks I’ve been much more aware about sun protection.
