Saks Friends and Fam – Spring 2014

Hi everyone!

I’m so sorry I’ve been slacking on the posts.  While Jared’s still in session I’ve had my hands full with my 6.5 month old little monster, but of course loving every bit of it!  I wanted to take a second to thank everyone for reading my Team Hayden post from last week and if you donated any money at all to Shelly and Thomas, I want to let you know how much I appreciate it!  As of last night when I checked the site, there has been over $63,000 donated – AMAZING!!

So if you’ve been eyeing something special for yourself or you’re in the market for any gifts, this is the week to do some shopping while Saks is having their Friends and Family promotion and offering 25% off!  Here are some items that I’m absolutely loving!

Alice + Olivia Connelly Striped Crop Top & Alice + Olivia Pia Full Skirt – How cute is this combo?!  (Don’t love all the space in between the two pieces as seen on the model, but I’ve seen it advertised with only a couple of inches between the top and skirt.)  I’m smitten!

Marc by Marc Jacobs Pretty Nylon Eliz-A-Baby Bag – Marc by Marc makes such great baby bags, perfect time to snatch this one up for all the preggos out there!

Loeffler Randall Convertible Clutch – Either using the chain shoulder strap or not, this clutch looks like the most versatile clutch to wear day or night!

Tom Ford Carli Oversize Plastic Tortoise Sunglasses – I’m obsessed with the funky shape and design, they are my new favorite pair for the season!

Parker Harrison Silk Printed Jumpsuit – I love the print of this and am always on the lookout for a great romper!  They’re perfect to dress up or down for the hot months ahead.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Mouse Leather Ballet Flats – Black flats + adorable animal detail = cutest shoes ever!

Tory Burch Maison Leather d’Orsay Flats – Dying to try these on as they look so classic and chic and beyond versatile!

Happy Shopping and have a great week!

Team Hayden

Hi everyone!

Last week one of sorority sister’s husband lost his battle to cancer, leaving her and their beautiful 5 month old son, Thomas.  I haven’t seen Shelly since college but have followed hers and her husband’s journey the past two years and from what I’ve read and heard, he was an incredible person, they were an incredible couple, and they’ve made an incredible baby boy.  My heart broke when I read the news that Hayden had passed and I, just like I’m sure most of you reading this, couldn’t fathom how Shelly is coping.  But then, in just the few short days after his passing, fellow sorority sisters as well as other friends and family of Shelly and Hayden’s have come together and rallied and starting raising thousands of dollars for she and Thomas.

Please read their story, keep them in your thoughts and prayers, and donate if you can.

Stuck on You Fragrances – Discount & Giveaway!

Ok, so I’ve been meaning to share this with you for a looong time, but luckily a recent birthday gift reminded me to finally do so!  Get ready to have your perfume world rocked…

stuck on you

A friend of mine introduced me to Stuck on You Fragrances when she was selling them at a local Farmer’s Market about a year ago.  This amazing company sells the same name brand perfumes that you love (and spend a small fortune on), but without the alcohol or fillers, just 100% oil.  They’re the exact same fragrance, not knock offs, only these are better for you, last longer, cheaper, and convenient!  I digress…

Most perfumes you purchase only contain a small percentage of actual perfume oil, the rest consists of alcohol, water, or fillers.  Wearing fragrances that contain alcohol are more prone to cause itching, sneezing, and other allergic reactions.  Being the wife of someone who suffers from severe allergies, this is a major plus for me!  Available in both men’s and women’s fragrances, Stuck on You Fragrances oils lasts forever on the skin as well as in the bottle, i.e. shelf life.  I wore my new Gucci Guilty yesterday and I luckily still smelled delish even at night, and that’s with getting spit on throughout the day!

gucci guilty

As you know I’m always raving about rollerball perfumes and think they’re beyond convenient to throw in your suitcase, purse, car, gym bag, diaper bag, etc.  Well ALL of Stuck on You Fragrances are sold in a .33 oz glass rollerball.  Best part is the price range of these little wonders is $14-18.  Yea that’s right, instead of spending $50+ on perfume, you can now spend less than $20 and it’ll be more convenient, better for you, and will last longer!  Check the list of fragrances available here to order today!  (And yes, they have my faves – Jimmy Choo and Flowerbomb!)

Ready to really flip your shit?  All Live Love Lipstick readers can use promo code LLL25 today through next Wednesday, March 26th to receive 25% on all orders.  25%!!  Now’s the time to stock up for yourself, friends, and family (don’t forget, Mother’s Day will be here before we know it!).  And as promised, they were awesome enough to do a giveaway on top of the discount!  To enter, just share this post on Facebook or Instagram (use hashtags #livelovelipstickisstuckonyou and #LLL25) and comment on which fragrance you’re most excited to try.  We’ll choose one winner at random next Wednesday and you’ll receive the bottle of your choice.  Good luck and happy shopping!

Lauren’s Kids

This past Saturday night I attended the Reid & Fiorentino Celebrity Dinner, an amazing annual charity event that bring together some of South Florida’s biggest celebrities (including Miami Heat’s James Jones who I’m pictured with below as we were seated at the same table, woop woop) to benefit charities such as Lauren’s Kids.  Lauren’s Kids, founded by my friend Lauren Book, educates adults and children about sexual abuse topics through in-school curriculum, a 24 hour hotline, and speaking engagements around the country.  (For all of the teachers out there, learn about Lauren’s curriculum here.)  Lauren was a victim of childhood sexual abuse for six years at the hands of her nanny.  She has since turned tragedy into triumph and has devoted her life to educating children so they know they all matter and that if something were to ever happen, it’s ok to tell.  Recently named the 2013 L’Oreal Woman of Worth National Honoree and featured on The Katie Couric Show, Lauren is a true leader in the community and someone I admire greatly.  Not to mention she’s just about the sweetest thing with a heart of gold!

JJ

As if her daily efforts weren’t enough, yesterday she kicked off her fifth (that’s FIFTH) “Walk in My Shoes Event”, which brings together survivors and advocates on a walk across Florida to raise awareness and promote support legislation.  Her walk now consists of 1,500 miles and she does every single one with a smile on her face!  For all the Floridians out there, become a part of the movement and join Team Lauren, check her schedule here and see when she’ll be by you to register to walk or volunteer and join her fight!  Can’t join her for the walk or live out of town?  Donate today.  Every dollars helps to make every mile possible.  This year be sure to share photos and your walk story with #WhyIWalk.

I wish Lauren the best of luck on her walk this year and will be sure to bring Samuel out to join her once she hits Broward and/or Palm Beach County!  Hopefully see you guys there!

Fashion Friday: Wedding Gowns

It’s Friday!  We’ve made it to the end of the week!  I’m loving receiving the feedback this week that some brides-to-be, as well as some past brides, have found these wedding posts helpful!

So now we discuss what could very well likely be the most important piece of clothing you’ll ever wear…no pressure.  Initial tips include:

-Stay open minded.  Even if you’ve picked out your gown before you even got engaged, hell…before you even met your fiancé, still keep an open mind and try on every single silhouette imaginable.  You never know, you could end up falling in love with a style that you never would have pictured yourself in originally.  Worst that happens?  You end up hating it and it reconfirms your love of a different style.  Besides, it’s fun to just try on dresses.  If only I could walk into a boutique tomorrow and try on gowns today, sigh.

-Just as I mentioned yesterday when speaking about bridesmaid dresses, definitely keep in mind the venue, look, and mood of your wedding to help you envision how you want to look.  For example, if it’s an outdoor wedding and you’re thinking of an intimate garden feel, a gown with a tulle skirt (as seen above) could look stunning.  Because of this, I recommend choosing those details about your wedding first before you start trying to dresses, even though that’s probably like the hardest thing to imagine.

-Again, I would suggest steering away from some dramatic trends.  Loving the high-low look these days?  Save the mullet cut for a weekend maxi and skip it for the big day.  You just don’t want to look back at pictures and cringe over your gown.  Are you wanting something non-traditional?  Perhaps go for more of a classic gown and jazz it up with non-traditional accessories.  You can add some classic yet chunky jewelry, a birdcage veil, and of course some fun footwear!  Btw, can we talk about this veil being from Ann Taylor?!

-As I mentioned earlier in the week about loving your vendors, this includes who you purchase your wedding gown from.  You know how you hate shopping in a store and the salesperson tells you everything looks amazing, even when you know what you just tried on just looked fug on you so you end up appreciating the salesperson who actually tells you they’re not crazy about what you just tried on?  Yea, well it’s like that but a million times more important when trying on a wedding dress.  It’s so important to trust the opinions you’re receiving and hopefully you can have a connection with whoever is helping you so they can help you put together the look that will help transform you into a bride!

-Don’t be afraid to try and negotiate when it comes to purchasing your dress.  I know a lot of places will offer a discount if paying in cash or in full.  Also see if they would be willing to throw in your veil and/or alterations.  These things add up so it never hurts to ask!  A lot of my friends have been very successful and in the end have saved some major bucks!

-Try your hardest not to get overwhelmed.  Keep in mind that there are such beautiful dresses in every style at every price point!  Recently I was able to go with my sister-in-law to the bridal store for her to dry her dress on for me and I couldn’t have been happier for her that she had found her gown.  She was officially a bride-to-be and was absolutely and positively glowing because she confirmed that it was in fact the dress she would wear to get married in.

And just because I like to live vicariously through other brides, here are some gowns that I’m in awe of:

Remember, you want to absolutely adore your dress.  If I could, I would wear mine every single day, so make sure you love it and don’t just settle.  If you’re in the South Florida area, I purchased my gown (as well as BM dresses) at Boca Raton Bridal and love everyone there.  Also, if you’re able to get over to Tampa, a sorority sister of mine took on the adventure of owning a bridal boutique, Malindy Elene, and from her pictures the store looks amazing!!

Leah
