Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

I hope everyone had a fantastic 4th of July weekend!  It was typical summer weather here in South Florida aka pure crap.  But we had a great time nonetheless!

As I showed on my Instagram account (be sure you’re following me!) a couple of weeks ago, I purchased Benefit’s new They’re Real! Push-Up Liner during Sephora’s VIB Rouge Early Access sale (one of the many perks!).  I was so excited to try it out when it arrived and then reality hit, oh wait…I barely go out anymore and sporting a dramatic cat-eye is a bit much for Mommy & Me.  So I was ecstatic when we actually had plans to go out this weekend with friends and I was going to be able to finally test this puppy out!  Short answer: I’m uh-bsessed!

push up liner

This liner is über easy to use and a provided a fool proof and budge-proof winged eye look!  I absolutely love the gel formula, it’s such a great black and isn’t as wet and liquid-y as other liners, thus making it less likely to make a mistake since it’s thicker.  I also really liked the edge tip as it again provides a precise line.  Oh and in case you were wondering, yes it’s waterproof.

And since it is so innovative, Sephora created a helpful video to show you how to use it.  It’s definitely easy, it’s just so different than any other liner you’ve used because it’s just that awesome.

Moral of the story, definitely check out the liner to add to your collection of Benefit They’re Real Products, They’re Real! Mascara and They’re Real! Remover.

Cheers to a great week!

July Magazine Article: Additional Beauty “Must Haves”

Check out my new magazine article for the Lifestyle Media Group South Florida magazines, while I continue to attempt to grasp the fact that June’s already over…

July column

I know how easy it is to get into a beauty routine and to not think out of the (cosmetic) box.  I get it.  Sure you have your foundation, blush, and mascara that the woman at the makeup counter helped you pick out years ago.  You’ve found what works and are sticking with it.  Who has time to start trying out new products and colors?  Well, sometimes you need to pause and hit refresh (sometimes even restart!) and try something new!  Revisit the woman at the makeup counter (who may or may not have already retired) and clean out your bathroom drawers.  To help you out I’ve put together a shopping list of additional beauty “must haves”.

Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment, $69: Clear up all your skin woes from breakouts to razor bumps with this super mud.  Who knew mud could be so glam?

Nails Inc. Kensington Caviar Gel Effect Plumping Top Coat, $11: Love the look of gel nail polish but don’t love what it does to your nails?  Try this plumping top coat to give any regular polish a gel look.

Jo Malone Vitamin E Body Treatment Scrub, $90: Treat yourself to this scrub and your skin will never feel so soft!  Extra bonus, the Vitamin E is combined with salt for a youthful glow.

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Spray, $15-20:  No matter your hair type this is truly a wonder product with its 10 features, simplifying multiple products into just one.  It does everything shy of styling it for you!

Revlon Translucent Finishing Powder, $10-12:  The perfect powder to set your makeup for a flawless look that will last!  Tip: I like to apply it by patting it with a puffer over my foundation, then applying face powder, and then patting a little more on top to finish.

MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter, $25:  This highlighter is great as it also primes your skin.  I love using this underneath my concealer to avoid creasing, as well as on top of makeup as a brightener for a quick pick-me-up!

Sigma Beauty Makeup Brushes, www.sigmabeauty.com: Try out these hand-crafted brushes and you’ll never want to use another brush on your face again, trust me!  If the brushes weren’t enough, use their Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove ($35) to deep clean your brushes and then the Dry’N Shape ($32) to remove all the water and not lose the original shape.  Genius!

Stay tuned for next month’s article!

Humpday Helper

I know I haven’t posted a Humpday Helper in quite a bit.  No excuse really, other than I doubt I would be very helpful with anything seeing as I walk around like a chicken with her head cut off nearly everyday…until now.  Ready folks?  Make sure you’re sitting down…

plie wand

So not everyone has time or money or even a desire to get their nails done regularly (as I type this I have fugly naked nails that haven’t had polish on them for over two weeks, something I would’ve consider catastrophic pre-Samuel), but that doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t want them looking nice.  So you attempt to do them yourself and you realize that you suck at doing your own nails with your non-dominant hand and it now looks like you just received a mani from a hyper 8 year old.  Well fear not, the masterminds from the fab nail polish company Julep have now solved all of your polish probs with their new Plié Wand.  This genius wand provides accuracy and control in a polish world filled with chaos with a flexible handle that bends so you can get a better grip, especially for your non-dominant hand.  But you don’t have to take my word for it (please someone understand the Reading Rainbow reference), check out this awesome video to see more.

Please note that the wand only fits Julep nail polish, however don’t let that stop you as they have some seriously amazing polishes with insane colors.  And great news!  Sephora is now offering a promo that when you purchase the wand ($35), you can receive a FREE full-size Julep nail polish bottle with promo code COLORTREAT, woop woop!!  I’m currently digging their colors Eva (raspberry creme), Monaco (mariner blue creme – Pantone Color of Spring 2014!), Jennifer (sheer soft pink creme), the Nail Therapy Base Coat & Treatment, and their Resort Collection (limited edition and online only, fyi) which includes three mini polishes and one mini top coat polish that’ll have you ready for vacay in minutes.

Oh and the wand kit includes a dotting tool and striping brush if you feel like getting all artsy with your paws!

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  It was certainly a good one in our household because we got to celebrate Jared’s first Father’s Day and did so with both friends and family!  We also helped surprise our soon to be brother-in-law with a terrific 30th birthday celebration!  All around great weekend!

So I have a horrible habit as I know I’ve mentioned before; I pick my lip.  In case you’re confused as to what that actually means, it’s exactly as it sounds.  Gross, I know.  Well I tend to do so when anxious, like other nervous habits, and watching the NBA Finals I was very very anxious.  So what did I do?  I picked.  (And I ate.)

Well now I’m left with dried, chapped lips and no championship.  Double burn.  Looks like I need to lean on some of my favorite products, as well as ones I’ve been wanting to try, to help my wounded lips.  And I’ll continue to lean on the batch of rice krispies treats I made last night during half time to help my wounded Heat heart.
