Fashion Friday: Sam’s Wardrobe

To finish out my “mom blog” week, I wanted to talk about Sam’s wardrobe these days. He’s in school now so we live in play clothes I get on sale at Gap and Target. Jeans are officially “fancy” clothes. And as they should be, he’s a toddler boy who’s constantly getting dirty while running around, climbing, and jumping. So here are some of my favorites things to dress him in…

toddler boy clothes

We’re obsessed with these super soft shirts from T’s and Tots {they use American Apparel tees}. My husband always loves when I purchase anything Star Wars and superhero related for Samuel, while I love this Skee-Lo reference tee which is super fitting since he’s super tiny.

Samuel isn’t exactly a fan of wearing shoes, but when I can convince him to wear them, these little Converse mid-tops and these Nike 5.0 are what I put him in.

And then literally 90% of the rest of his wardrobe comes from Baby Gap where I seem to be able to always get everything 30-40% off, especially as a Gap Cardholder. Here’s what I currently have my eye on:

gap kids baseball tee

This baseball tee.

gap kids distressed straight jeans

These distressed straight jeans. {Heads up, Baby Gap/Gap Kids bottoms run VERY big}

gap kids plaid shirt

And this super handsome plaid shirt.

I hope you enjoyed all of the kid related posts this week! And if not, no worries…back to makeup and meaningless things next week!

Have a terrific weekend!

Sam’s Snacks

So continuing on with my “Mom Blog” week in honor of my son’s second birthday, I wanted to share some of Samuel’s favorite snack items. While we unfortunately are battling some food issues, the kid of course still loves to snack! And here’s what I love using for them:

Lollacup sippy cup

Lollacup: I’ve been using this cup for over a year now and I highly recommend it when transitioning away from a bottle, as I’ll still use it in the evenings to give Sam some toddler formula before bed. It has a weighted straw and allows babies as young as 9 months old to start using a straw. It was originally featured on Shark Tank!

munchkin snack catcher

Munchkin Snack Catcher: I love using these snack cups to hold all of the small piece treats that I give Sam as they minimize the mess that he can make. {Notice how I say minimize and not eliminate. I mean, the kid is a toddler after all.} They feature reach-through rubber flaps that he can easily put his little hands through and grab his goodies.

Contigo Striker Kids cup

Contigo Striker Kids Water Bottle: This is now the only sippy cup of water I’ll give to Sam as I swear it’s the only one I’ve used that never leaks! Seriously, the only one! I also love that it features a one-touch lid that pops up an easy to drink spout and can be used with just one hand. The only one people!!

Pirate's Booty snacks

Pirate’s Booty 0.5 oz Snack Bags: As much as I hate the mess they make {PB Hands, ick}, Pirate’s Booty is one of Sam’s all time fav snacks which I can’t exactly blame him for. I love the 0.5 oz bags as it’s the perfect snack size amount. Plus it has me singing Ms. New Booty every day of my life. Tip: Stock up on snacks now while a lot of companies have miniature snack bags for Halloween, they’re perfect!

Happy Snacking!

Toddler Toiletries

As promised, I’m playing “Mommy Blogger” this week and going to share some of Samuel’s and my favorite products. While he may not exactly have the typical beauty products I post about, I still have products that I use on him that I absolutely love!

Sam suffers from baby eczema and has very sensitive skin because of it so I try to steer away from heavy scented products and stick to natural ingredients.

Baby Skincare Products

Aden + Anais Shampoo and Conditioner: I’m seriously obsessed with how these both smell and how soft they leave Samuel’s hair, which I just started washing every other day as opposed to every day to avoid drying it out too much. I highly recommend this entire line!

SheaMoisture Ultra-Sensitive Baby Healing Lotion: I love how natural this lotion is (fragrance free and gluten free) and it keeps Sam’s skin so so soft. I rub it all over his little body after bath time and it helps keep his sometimes dry patches smooth.

Aden + Anais All Purpose Soothing Ointment: As I said already, I’m a huge fan of this line which didn’t surprise me considering how much I love all of the A+A’s other items and this ointment is certainly included. This wonder product is infused with pawpaw fruit (Carica Papaya – many of their other products are as well), which fittingly is known as the “wonder fruit” and is packed with antioxidants and essential vitamins and helps moisturize, nourish, and sooth skin. It can be used to help diaper rash, cuts, scrapes, chapped lips, even insect bites!

Mustela PhysiObebe No Rinse Cleansing Fluid: So whenever a friend of mine is about to have a baby, this is my #1 product I recommend them buying as it is so gentle on newborn skin and allows you to clean their faces and diaper area without having to rinse it off. It is an absolute must! In fact, I’m still guilty of using it from time to time if Samuel needs a quick cleaning because it’s just that good.

Aquaphor: Because Aquaphor is the “Windex for babies in My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. Similar to the A+A Soothing Ointment, I use it for just about everything for Sam and carry around the travel size in my purse.

California Baby Eczema Shampoo & Body Wash: Although a bit pricey, this is my go-to body wash for Samuel. I love that the creator of California Baby searched high and low to find the perfect ingredients to make this wash soothe as well as prevent further eczema, including organic oatmeal, calendula, aloe vera, and more. It can even be used for adults with eczema! Moms can use it as a facial wash to remove makeup and sunscreen while keeping skin hydrated.

Babyganics Mineral Based Sunscreen Spray SPF50: There’s a lot of good sunscreens out there, but there’s also a lot of bad ones. This summer I found myself reaching for this one over and over. Most importantly, Sam never burned when wearing it and it also didn’t irritate his skin. Plus I found that the spray (a spritz, not a mist) made it so much easier to apply to my wiggle worm.

California Baby Calming Jelly Mousse Hair Gel: Now that I have a two year and old and all, we starting to style his hair. Unfortunately I still can’t figure out what to do with it so we revert to a comb over, which I’d like to think he pulls off well. To help give it a little edge, I use a little of this hair gel. It’s of course non-toxic and free of any harsh chemicals and doesn’t leave his hair sticky or crunchy.

And Just Like That, He’s TWO!!

family pic two year old photoshoot

Today my son, Samuel, turns two years old. He’s no longer a little baby, he’s a full on toddler. Being his mom is the most rewarding, and at times most challenging thing I’ve ever done. And although he’s only two, I can’t even remember what life was before him. Besides of course the faint memory of a life without stretch marks, wrinkles, and grey hairs…

Samuel

When Angelina Jolie adopted her daughter Zahara years ago, I read that she said Zahara was the funniest person she knew and I remember thinking how ridiculous she sounded saying that a six month old baby was hysterical and wondered if Angie just knew really dull people. But that was before I had a baby. Before Sam. I get it now because if anyone were to ask me, I’d tell them that little Samuel is one of the funniest people I know with one of the biggest personalities anyone has ever seen. I’m a full blown mom now, surviving not one but two years of raising a human.

I’ve had some great times in my life that I can recall with a smile. Amazing family, lifelong friends, four incredible years in college, marrying my best friend, and yet now I lump in celebrating my son’s second birthday. We, along with our friends and their children, spent the weekend in Disney and had the time of our lives. We’re officially those parents, in matching t-shirts and all. But let’s be fair, after dealing with a child who didn’t nap a wink in the parks on any of the days, I was beyond grateful for a babysitter and the Epcot Food and Wine Festival.

Disney World trip

Happy Birthday Sam. Thanks for keeping us on our toes and leaving us smitten.

To help continue the festivities, I’ll be playing “Mom Blogger” for the week and will be sharing some of Samuel’s and my favorite products so stay tuned!

October Magazine Article

October is here, which means bust out the decorations, carve those pumpkins, chug your Pumpkin Spice Lattes because October is here! Here are my top beauty picks from my October Lifestyle Media Group Magazine Article for the month to get you looking and feeling so fabulous that you’ll want to ditch the Halloween mask this year!

October beauty magazine article

1. House of Lashes: Halloween is always the perfect excuse to get glammed up and try out some false lashes. I’m loving this California based brand and the quality they put into their products. There’s even a Fit Guide on their site to help you choose which lash style would best suite your eye shape! ($12, www.houseoflashes.com)

2. Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette: This eyeshadow palette will cure any beauty sweet tooth with its 16 matte and shimmer shades of browns, pinks, and plums.  And since they’re made of anti-oxidant cocoa powder, they not only look delicious, they actually smell delicious too! ($49, Sephora and Ulta)

3. Ghost White Manicure: If you aren’t a fan of the currently popular dark polishes, try a spooky “ghost white” mani! I love using one coat of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Let’s Snow with two coats of Essie Waltz on top. It’s a boo-tiful combo! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist…) ($5-8, Amazon and drug stores)

4. Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask: If you can’t get enough of pumpkins or masks this month, try combining them together! This three-in-one mask will help even out skin tone, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and clarify skin while using pumpkin enzymes to exfoliate. ($58, Sephora and www.peterthomasroth.com)

5. Bite Beauty Matte Crème Plum Lipstick: One of the biggest beauty trends for Fall is a berry lip and this shade by Bite is one of my favorites! The limited-edition rich eggplant shade is highly pigmented and leaves a velvety finish. ($24, Sephora)

Cheers to a great month ahead!

Cosmetic Case of the Mondays

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve posted! I’ve recently had a lot of super fun blogger events {which I will be reporting back on very soon!}, tons of birthday, baby, and wedding celebrations of friends and family, Bravo shows, and of course running after my almost two year old {eek!} son. With all of that, I’m always looking for ways to help cover up my dark circles, decrease my bags, and leave my eyes looking refreshed. Here are the wonder products I’ve been loving these days:

Bobby Brown Hydrating Eye Cream: I use this cream at night to rehydrate my skin, as well as in the morning to prime my skin, allowing my concealer to go on smoothly and evenly.

Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream

Trish McEvoy Instant Eye Lift: I actually just learned about this product and instantly fell in love. Apply in McEvoy’s signature ‘Triangle of Light’, an inverted triangle beneath your eye and they will immediately look brighter and your lines will be filled.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer: I’m guilty of owning quite a few concealers, but this is my current fav. I love that it holds up to its name, definitely longwear, but isn’t thick like other similar concealers. Similar to my MAC foundations, I use NW25.

MAC 'PRO LONGWEAR' CONCEALER

MAC Matchmaster Concealer 1: These concealer sticks glide right onto your skin and offer buildable coverage. I love using them to contour and highlight and this shade, #1, is a great color to be applied under your eyes to cover dark circles and correct discoloration.

Cheers to a great week and keeping those eyes looking fresh!

September Magazine Article

It’s September. Which means Fall. Which more importantly means Fall Fashion! I get so excited each year to see which colors and trends will be in and from what we’ve seen on the runways, this season will be HOT! (Especially since in South Florida, Fall still means heat.) This year, you’ll be seeing oxblood and brick red lips, flushed and rose hued blush, bronze lids, dramatic smoky eye liner, and fierce brows. Here are my top picks for all of the Fall beauty looks from my Lifestyle Media Group Magazine Article!

September 2015 beauty picks

1. For brick-red lips: NARS VIP Red. This new shade for Fall 2015, seen at the 3.1 Phillip Lim NYFW show, is the perfect brick red shade! If you’re feeling really VIP and want to treat yourself, try Tom Ford Velvet Cherry ($50), which is a bit darker and glossier of a finish. ($27, Department stores, www.narscosmetics.com)

2. For bronze lids: MAC Amber Lights (shown), MAC Bronze, MAC Tempting. A bronze lid can look good on anyone, as there are so many different shades of bronze that can compliment any eye color. MAC offers a huge variety to choose from! ($16, Departments stores and www.maccosmetics.com)

3. For smoky eyes: Dior Crayon Eyeliner – Waterproof. In addition to your smoky eye shadows, an eyeliner can also do the trick! This Dior liner glides on smoothly and then has a sponge brush on the other end so you can smudge your line to give you a dramatic, smoldering effect. ($29, Sephora and department stores)

4. For rose-hued cheeks: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Luminous Flush Blush. Less is more with blush this season, but it doesn’t mean ‘subtle’ can’t be sexy!  This shade is meant to evoke a candlelit glimmer, offering the perfect radiant glow. ($35, Sephora and Nordstrom)

5. For bold brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Brow Pencil. This bestselling ultra slim brow pencil will help shape, define, and fill your brows to help keep them looking polished. Not a fan of using a pencil? Try the Brow Powder Duo, which I personally also love! ($21 and $23, Ulta, Sephora, and department stores)

Cheers to a great month ahead!

Leah
